I also found out that school and education was selling my details on to private companys the price of being a single parent that didnt go down well as i had a few dos with the education board about selling dpa details to private companies

note doctors will share your details with other partys police social services and even housing if your council housed

as goes for private data being sold on by the covid injections/ test and trace you will never know

if they want to know anything about me ‘they’ are welcome to it. I am not worth knowing about. As I have suggested in other threads, I did a bit for the police a few years back. They had my prints and dna - routine for everyone. They also bought my kit so ‘the man’ actually knows what sized trousers I wear.
Maybe I’m missing something but I’ve no idea what the fuss is about going to so much effort to hide. From who?

I get that train of thought and I used to think that way myself to a degree. To quote Rumsfeld, it’s about the unknown unknowns. You don’t know what data they hold, or what they might do with it.

It’s not a case of paranoia, it’s more a case of they cant do nefarious things with data they don’t have.

"They" would be on the lookout for anyone who oppose them. In the 1930's, neither the Fascists nor the Communists got very far in the UK, but if their modern descendants had access to databases suggesting who supported them and who opposed them, who knows? Like I said, it's not about now, it's about what your kids will have to deal with. Those who stick their head in the sand are letting their kids down and that says everything you need to know about them.

The issue is that goalposts move according to fashion. Something we are doing today may become frowned upon in the future, like the witch hunt of celebrities from the 1970s that we witnessed.

No idea, but I look at it this way; If one makes it onto some nefarious sh*tlist, they'll do whatever they choose to one, or makeup whatever they wish regarding one. Facts & legalities rarely seem to bother common folk, so why would the power/money people give two hoots either?

My brother was always coy at work about his birthday. One of his colleagues made the challenge of finding his birthday in 10 minutes. They both work at the DWP so there could be no funny business, instant dismissal.
Five minutes later, your birthday is 0X/0X/19XX, your mother's maiden name is XXXXXX, you lived at this address until XXXX, then you moved to XXXX. He then listed his school, university, etc. He then told him my age, my birthday, my addresses etc.
All from a genealogy website where one of my cousins had posted the family tree.

Would I mind being micro-chipped the same as dogs? Not really. As long they don't end up like the National Insurance Number, twice as many numbers issued as there are people eligible for them.

Ever happen to look at Germany or a lot of the eastern European countries on google maps or earth, streetview ? A huge amount of places you cannot look at. They still remember the Stasi, the neighbours spying on neighbours, the same in Russia. The less a government can intrude into your life, the better.

GDPR already states what can be done with personally identifiable information (such as your email address, name, postal address) and your personal data (such as your health records, financial information, sexual persuasion etc.)
Penalties for breaching GDPR are severe and could ultimately bankrupt any organisation that breaches the regulation. The recent BR... EXIT... situation has not watered down these penalties.

The suggestion that local GP practices are handing out constituent lists to random "foreign" companies with impunity is ludicrous. GPs do not have the autonomy to do that, and anyone receiving and processing data on EU and UK residents is still required to operate within GDPR.

A few years ago a learned member on here IM'd me to tell me that he thought that some of my posts came across a bit "middle-management" - that I was coming across as a know-it-all and, to be candid, a bit of a dick.
He was right, and his message stung. I've tried not be as black and white in my responses since he was kind enough to correct me.
But this topic is just not a topic that I can ignore - it's nonsense and paranoia.

Special note here: Gaz, I try to give you the benefit of the doubt, which is challenging sometimes, but here you have manufactured the tinfoil hats, imported them, built a bunch of warehouses and are now actively selling them on street corners.
I hesitate to ask but... where are the doctors that are being sold to USA investors? And, hedging my bet somewhat, even if the US investors held some stock in UK GPs (I'm reaching here...) how would that absolve them of GDPR requirements and allow them to sell patient records to anyone and everyone?

I think a lot of people are confusing data relating to illnesses that can be interrogated to find out how common / devastating it is and can money be made at the end of the day by putting an investment into research for a cure .
I don't think we will ever see legal upping the prices of things because you chew your finger nails , drink like a fish , gorge yourself like a pig or drive pink cars .
Simply by your post code & what you view on Sky etc it's likely that you'll be targeted with adverts for all manner of things , have a subscription to a monthly magazine and you also get age & income related targeted ads in the pack the mag arrives in .

Yeah - fair point, but you draw an interesting distinction: Your post code, health or Sky viewing data by location don't fall under GDPR but data tied explicitly to you does. My gripe with many of the responses on this thread is the idea that the GP is able to just hand over that data to third parties with little control over how that personal data is used. If any GP was selling personal data to outside agencies with no regulatory control, then I'd be pretty surprised that it was a welding forum that broke the story...

Chemists and major pharmaceutical suppliers sell detailed anonymous data to drug research companies and other places too , it's one of many avenues where info can be had from that is not from the NHS or your doctor .

^ This……on steroids. Data harvesting is huge business, there are many companies who have built a large profitable business on this. If there was no profit they wouldn’t do it.

Also consider what a bad actor might do. Never mind the law, there are criminals in the world. Why do criminals do what they do? Usually because of money or ideological ideas, mostly money.

My last word (promise). Data = money. Whether used legally, illegally or questionably is irrelevant, there is money to be made from it. If you know this and accept it that’s fine. I choose not to.

yup all my neighbors and most folk around dont know anything about me. no name on van not in telephone book mainly pay cash for everything and give an unused email addy ive seen what information is being used just by getting a credit check done on a few folkit even tell;s you who lives in the street how many folk and if married. what there incomes are and what white goods they buy and a lot more besides
