GP Surgeries sharing your emails?

Some days ago I received an email from this “correspondent” mjog.FC9CF51AAF24F99BEEAAAD73477AAF609C@hc3.mjog.net

That is a sender which I do not recognise and the most unusual aspect of it made me worried that it could be an email threat.
However, I did open it and went on to find a 3-page letter from my GP surgery. Wishing to know more about mjog , I searched Google to find out that is listed as private limited company. From Companies House;

Apparently, this business is now handling communications for GP surgeries.
So, the question I've just asked my GP is when did I give them permission to share my email address with a third party? Anyone else seen this?
Don't like companies which keep changing their name.

Nhs can do what it likes. It has shared everyones details with Ipsos Mori for the covid surveys. They continually pester me by phone texts and post with no way to stop it.

My gp and nhs both have my updated details, but continually use my old phone number and refuse to use the new one. Found this out because I lent my spare phone to a friend when she broke hers, she got all my vaccine reminders!

From now on NHS only get a disposable number and not my real details.

I get texts and emails from the last 2 gp surgeries I had despite telling them I’d moved.

Just delete and ignore them. Emails are easier as you can mark them as spam. No real hardship to me.

edit. Wife has just told me you can block senders on an iPhone so that’s the other half of the problem solved. Result.

So, are you happy to have personal info trickle outwards and end up on huge databases accessible to ...who knows? There are many counties in the world where dictators must be thrilled with that. Thin end of a wedge I reckon.

I have had the same email since dial up, im pretty sure its on every scammer/spammer/dictator database out there anyway

Are you gay, Jewish or a reporter of any kind? If you are, then even in the EU countries of Poland and Hungary, I think your views would be different.
Do you think we should all be electronically tagged or have our DNA sampled at birth?

@cheb it's with claranet- it's a very old personal account, I think they only do corporate stuff these days.

I use the same email because its been out there so long it probably has no value any more, its likely to be past useful

That is completely different to being electronically tagged at birth.

As for DNA, I once volunteered mine to help in a rape case, im sure that's on a database somewhere as well and honestly, it would require effort for me to actually care less

Where I am on this is that I believe that we are in an age where we in this country are still "safe".

But the way both Big Brother and Big Data are growing, our kids and grand kids will be very unsafe. If the spreading of personal data it's not resisted now, it will surely be too late at some point?

There’s a lot of it about these days, and it is concerning. Even things like email receipts from shops, not necessarily anything sinister but data collection nonetheless and data which can easily be passed onto other third parties. Trouble is where do you draw the line? Cash is dead so you spend on your card or phone which means your whereabouts and habits can be tracked in real time... nothing is private anymore.
actually come to think of it, my tinfoil hat is wearing a bit thin, I must remember to sort another... you can get two ply now!!!

The OP never mentioned if this was a personal email, or a more generic bulk email.

A lot companies/organisations will use a third party emailing company for any large scale email lists, as it avoids them having to deal with the issues with mass emailing.

If it's a personal email, then it's likely the surgery is using an IT provider who's handling the surgery's records along with any communications involved with them.
Nowadays, I'd much rather have my GP using an online system from a reputable provider with dedicated security specialists, rather than something hosted in the surgery and maintained by a local IT company who likely don't have access to any great level of security specialists.

If you really don't want your GP using your email, then don't give them it. There is always the option for a letter or phone call.

Local authorities use outsourced IT company’s for electoral register details as well, and have for some years. It’s not something I actually lose sleep over, but like the OP I don’t remember giving my permission for them to share data like this. Even the most careful amongst us get spam and scam calls, and that information has to come from companies that we deal with. The same goes for bank card fraud - my card has been used for fraud twice in the last ten years, and my details had to have come from a seemingly bona-fide company. It only takes one dishonest employee with a thumb drive.

emails. Private, corporate, super private (family only) and burner email accounts.
phone numbers. Standard and super private ones. iPhone can take 2 sims.
bank accounts. Have several, 2 offshore, standard bank account and a Revolut online only account. Also have an un-named card from a company bank account in the Seychelles. Take a wodge of cash out after pay day to deal with incidental stuff, everything else is moved around.
turn off location services on the phone.
never sign in to search engines, browsers etc.
use anonymous search tools
use privacy tools on the entire home network
and most of all……put the Amazon account in the wife’s name Seriously, these devils know more about me than I do.

As for official stuff like councils, doctors etc, just tell them you don’t use email, don’t have a home phone and don’t have a smart phone. Royal Mail only.

i havent a smart phone and have only 2 email addresses . the one i normaly give i cant get in to anyhow and cant use it

I just can’t be arsed

if they want to know anything about me ‘they’ are welcome to it. I am not worth knowing about. As I have suggested in other threads, I did a bit for the police a few years back. They had my prints and dna - routine for everyone. They also bought my kit so ‘the man’ actually knows what sized trousers I wear.
Maybe I’m missing something but I’ve no idea what the fuss is about going to so much effort to hide. From who?
