Been using my GTO-TT a lot more than the Golf so I've decided to address some issues as to why..
Firstly I'm putting the power steering rack back in. I have decided to use a Volvo electric steering pump assy and an adjustable Canbus controller.
The other bugbear is the cable clutch, it's just not as nice to use as the hydraulic one on the GTO.
This is a bit more involved as I've decided to go over to a cable change MK3 16v Gearbox and VR6 clutch assy, this also requires a kit for the hydraulic master cylinder on the clutch pedal.
I decided not to go this route earlier on as normally you would have to fit a complete Mk3 pedal box assy and beat the crap out of the firewall, but now a company have come up with a retrofit solution which keeps the original pedals.
So the engine will be coming out again at some point to make it easier to fit the gearbox and rack, but hopefully worth the effort..
I've got a power steering setup to refit too so be interested to see how you get on with the remote pump setup. Looks like best of all worlds, especially if it's switchable and/or variable for such as motorway driving.
There’s a guy on eBay over in Spain that offers a gps module that takes the place of the steering potentiometer that gives varying outputs based on the speed when it weights up the steering input by reducing the resistance. The pot is ok but relies on your input. I think I paid about £70 for it a couple years back. Not used it yet. If you can’t find it let me know and I’ll source the link.
