Cheers! I’m lucky that the shower in the en-suite is raised so I can sit in it with my feet out the door! Less than dignified, but then again that’s me all over

Thought it bang a thread up for the amusement of the assembled!

I posted in the today you’ve acquired…… thread about getting a trials bike. Last rode one in anger when I was 16, apart from a couple of instruction days at inch perfect trials in the past couple of years. Caved in and sold some stuff to a guy in the village that was pestering me for a while and scraped the money together for this:View attachment 513625

Went to inch perfect on the 14th for a day with a couple of mates, and surprised myself with how well I did all day. No major offs, managed to clean almost every section we set…… until the last 10 minutes when we decided against all common sense to go in the play area. I completely mistimed a drop off and only worked out it had zero runout when I hit the strategically placed boulder! Went down like a sack of crap and sprung to my feet to laugh it off. I was on my second step when the pain from the broken ankle showed up and down I went again.

Did you know that when you get wheeled into a&e and say you had a bike crash, they go a bit overboard??? Hence this: View attachment 513626

Incidentally I had my mate pull my boot instead of risking them cutting it off at hospital. That was unpleasant and I bit a hole in the glove they shoved in my mouth…..


Once the sock was hacked off, it became pretty clear I’d done some damage:

And the bike? I’ve managed to rupture the headstock tube and completely destroy the bearings. Even beta were impressed at that!View attachment 513630

Currently waiting on beta to let me know if they have a frame they can provide, I won’t go into to much detail but they’ve done me a solid in trying to track one down for me!

I was thinking of having a go at that trials riding malarkey but now I'm not so sure!

I used to watch them at Elton many years ago whilst walking, thoughts then were "I'll stick to road / trails riding.

I've been doing drop off that (with the falling away landing zone) head towards 6-foot from takeoff to landing on my MTB. Nothing clever by youngster / talented standards, but I'm neither

I'm increasingly questioning the sanity of it (while telling myself off for being a Wendy for thinking like that).... but inexorably, age, fitness & vitality will conspire to restrict you & rein you in one way or the other.

At 61, I'm finding myself wondering how long and how much I can stick my neck out - the last drop I did tweaked my back & I suffered for 3-months.

It's not an enjoyable conversation to be having with yourself, but kinda inevitable.

Its not age just goes with the territory and if lady luck is out of town... I had a offroad bike accident on a enduro in my teens caused by meeting a idiot going the wrong way round a track with me midway on a steep uphill climb and ended up in A&E with broken ribs and a snapped ac tendon after my bike landed on top of me as gravity kicked in.
Id have a new school proper trails bike now and have looked at the odd beta or gasgas local, its just finding somewhere to ride it quietly getting back into it, preferably alone, but still having someone handy who wont panic but to take you to a&e if it goes badly wrong.
I do occasionally ride a electric unicycle for fun and to keep my balance and fitness level up (just a inmotion v5f) much to my kids disgust, and on that the injuries are mostly wrist based but being old and needing to use a keyboard and wanting all my remaining braincells I wear skater hard wrist protectors and a lid so touch wood nothing really injured so far. Maybe I should combine the two worlds and get one of the full on offroad ones with suspension and stuff because they look even more fun, what could possibly go wrong.

There's a reason I do my trials on four wheels. Car trials, or classic trials. While they do occasionally fall over, it's not as often.
