You won't get a precision hole doing that.If they’re not chipped, just use an oilstone, like you do a plane iron.
Hand or machine?I need to get 2 reamers sharpened, any ideas as to who can do it?
They are I Wiltshire but can post them anywhere
Thanks
Darren
It depends upon being machine or hand more as machine are parallel therefore respond well to having the cutting faces ground on a cutter grinder. Hand have taper lead and are a pitaThey are unlikely to be to quite the same precision tolerance once sharpened. Likely better to use them sharpened slightly undersized and finish with a well preserved item.
It rather depends if these are production items or hobby jobbies. My hobby jobbies mostly suit my uses as the inner fitment can be adjusted without fear of wrong tolerances ensuing.
Quick rub with an emery stick , shouldnt take much to put the edge back on them if they have been looked after , they are only doing brass after all ,,They are for reaming out mini radius arm bushes and we do that by hand.
The reamers cost £400 each and are speciist kit
As long as the radius arm pins go through with no play it's all good.
I do remember reaming Mini radius arm bushes back in the eighties,They are for reaming out mini radius arm bushes and we do that by hand.

I've done it by pulling a carbide cutter backwards allong the flute, raising the edge slightly - desperation measures...I sometimes adjust the fit on a reamed part by rubbing along the cutting edge with a piece of carbide (flat on the front face of the cutting egde, not at an angle). It raises a tiny burr that can turn a tight fit into a sliding one. Only do it on older reamers. if you're use is very seldom you might use the same trick to restore the cutting edge somewhat.
And when that doesn't make the hole big enough stuff something in one flute.I've done it by pulling a carbide cutter backwards allong the flute, raising the edge slightly - desperation measures...
So how do you do blind holes?Machine reamers do/should have a taper. Both less and shorter than hand reamers.
