Yes I am sure it is new came in boc box and I now have another problem boc bottles are top fitting and my Adams gas bottle is side fitting so the flow meter will not work horizontally see pics attached, is an adapter available for a right angled elbow at the bottle as the flow meter is part of the gauge? Chris
I do not need a trolley the bottle fits snugly on the back of the machine and is as mobile as I want it to be. I bought this gauge because I originally had an oxygen gauge with the unit and never really new what flow my argon mix was running at and held off until I found one with this type of flow meter to be more accurate wish now I had bought one with 2 clocks this is becoming grief so I repeat is an adapter available.Thanks Chris

The regulator, in this case, has to be vertical for the flow meter to work properly.

There is up to 300bar in these things guys! It is not a place to save a few quid using fittings that are not designed with that in mind.
People look at these threads long after they have been posted and assume that because they are on the internet they must be right and save. With those people in mind I'll remove the posts referencing unsuitable adapters.

My understanding is that it was just to re orientate the flowgauge not the complete reg, I've had to do just that in the past when using air products cylinders where the outlet is horizontal, I reckon you would struggle to find a suitable 5/8 bsp elbow anyway apart from the correct fitting in KMpuggy's link. that particular one is a left hand for acetylene or propane.

In the pictures the flow gauge looks like it is part of the reg body. The suggestion appeared to be to fit a pipe adapter (described as for vacuum applications and costing a couple of quid) between reg and bottle and use a load of ptfe tape to seal everything up.
If nothing else that would mess up the regulator - they don't seal on the thread and if the end is tightly screwed into the wrong fitting it will at best be damaged and would damage any bottles it is subsequently used with.
Also the tapered threads these adapters tend to have may crack the bottle threads especially if they just need a just bit more of a turn to get into the right angle.
Might work for the DIYer messing around, and what the hell, there are gene pool benefits if it doesn't work, but I'd hate to have that bottle next. It's not just your safety you are risking doing stupid things like that - it's mine. I'll get a bottle with a damaged seat and a crack in the top, and with the bottles I seem to end up with I'll guess those things wouldn't be picked up in inspection.
If that's a mis-reading of the botch posts I removed do tell me so. I hate being a fuddy duddy about these things, but it is something you should not be posting on the internet for others to see.

Those flowmeters just screw in, at least on the regs we ran they did, sometimes they get broken off so we would plug the port with a 1/4 bsp plug and set the flow at the torch with a peashooter, the real answer is to buy a decent reg in the first place, and then fit a proper flowmeter like this one.

without making this go on and on the threads on the bottle have nothing to do with the elbow that would be fitted on regulator the reg body would have been ucscrewed of the short tail leaving the male thread. then the female thread on elbow screwed on . then reg body screwed on to male thread the only issue was the elbows rating was to 250 bar and not 3oo so it was a non starter

I had a little look around and couldnt find anywhere that just sells the covers. mines the same on one of my gauges, good old bit of plastic tape holds it together.

Wwhoa guys don't go messing around with regulators, fittings etc. As soon as you modify anything you become the manufacturer of that piece of kit and as such 100% responsible should owt go wrong.
A few years back was involved with a company where a young lad had altered the outlet on one of our regs from the right hand (low pressure side) side to the left (high pressure) due to access problems.
As soon as he opened the cylinder valve 230 bar was released into the plastic flowmeter causing it to explode, the ball bearing hit him in the right eye blinding him instantly, he could have easily been killed...........so think on, is it worth saving £25 or whatever regs cost, I don't think so

Many thanks everyone for your advice I have ordered the proper adapter from Steve (weldequip £18.85 delivered) and I guess I will have to live with the cracked plastic cover when the adapter arrives I will have no more excuses not to give it a go, at least I wont be able to blame the tools.
