fitting furings well the best way is from the middle to the end to fit those length wise yes they can be fitted but that means the whole roof needs doing the same way and yet your back to the same trouble the shared joint in the middle
Yes agreed upstand in the middle is a spatial limitation.
It is also on a party wall so any alteration must be agreed with the neighbour by law under the party wall act..
This could however include raising of the upstand to accomodate a proper fall on the roof it would be easy to have done that at the time and lap the new membrane up over it. Simples.
