fitting furings well the best way is from the middle to the end to fit those length wise yes they can be fitted but that means the whole roof needs doing the same way and yet your back to the same trouble the shared joint in the middle

Yes agreed upstand in the middle is a spatial limitation.

It is also on a party wall so any alteration must be agreed with the neighbour by law under the party wall act..

This could however include raising of the upstand to accomodate a proper fall on the roof it would be easy to have done that at the time and lap the new membrane up over it. Simples.

your right to a degree

however as both me and roofman has had to deal with alot of shared roofs over the years roofs / dormers and garage roofs

yours can be changed and the joint has to be a good seal i know well enough with roofmans job that thats seal would be good enough and so would mine be

as a builder/roofer we know we have to make right to the next doors property on our joints otherwise it does come back to us

as a customer it always comes down to the customer dosnt want to change the way the water runs even with advice given and neither do they want to pay for it

so on looking at that job as it stands
you would need new furrings
new gutter to run across the front above the door and also a cap end for next doors gutter
to gain the rise roofman would have to tar seal the middle to next door so it slopes back onto there property and then yours can be fitted to the new rising middle

most customers dont want to pay for that yet you want to change the roof from what it was designed to use in the first place

the job in question that you have is new boards and a new rubber roof fitted thats what you got
