yes, after avoiding it all my life I’ve finally caught a dose. My own fault, was too lazy to walk down the workshop and grab my air feed pack. Just a pleasant reminder to all that it’s a very real danger, and I can assure you not nice at all.
12hrs so far of shakes, aches, metallic taste in my mouth, coughing, a hellish headache that will not go away. Actually woke up in bed this morning convinced I’d peed the bed as I was drenched in that much sweat

Interesting. I do a bit of mig welding but always outside. I do however do some silver soldering in the garage. I've had an irritating throat tickle for quite a while which has mysteriously disappeared together with a cough over Christmas as I went 'cold turkey' and haven't been doing anything in the garage. Could the silver soldering be the cause?

This time of year it is much more likely to be a cold or similar. A friend of mine was attacked by a six foot beetle. He only found out afterwards that there was a nasty bug going around.

Worst I've ever had is bad headaches. Usually once a week I find myself welding up small cracks on the ramp lugs and wheel arches on 2.5t plant trailers. Horrible stuff to weld, even though I clean it all off e it h a grinder it still smokes and gives off the white fluff

only time I got it was welding scaffy poles together . wasn't that bad just a sore throat and feeling stuffy for a few days /most people have a common cold this time of year

old electricity pylon steel is thick galv, got hold of some and gave up.
Generally the only time I get asked to weld galv other than trailers is tight supplying their own steel to which the answer is no

I caught a touch of something over the xmas break this year and lost few pounds. Shivering, sickness and aches I hadn't even touched a welder. First time ever at Xmas that I lost weight. Result!

pah! you're all getting soft

when I was a kid I used to climb inside the galv drum of a big tripe washer and weld up the splits/cracks, crap mig gun in one had, hand held mask in the other and a hose pipe in my mouth to breath through

had to remember to breath in through the hose (mouth) and out through the nose.... easy to slip up and try to breath in/out through the hose - breath the same air in and out again

guess it's more of an adventure when you're a kid tho
