Worst I've had is sleeping in my room forgot there was an open can of thinners in there.

Mum was convinced I was on drugs. I was disorientated, didn't know the time or the day, horrible! To think people do that for fun!

Quite! I was taken in to hospital and given Morphine in the ambulance. How anyone could think that was "fun" is totally beyond my comprehension.

No worries. Better later than never, I think about all the grinding dust and concrete dust I’ve inhaled over the years. Pretty worrying really but hopefully never an issue.

is concrete dust bad for you long term?

I thought pure concrete dust from a bag of concrete was ok long term (as long as it's not loads of it)

and the only with dust problem from cutting concrete is the sand mixed in with it?

(I googled it years ago when someone told me it was bad for me)

I mean concrete dust from cutting slabs of concrete and using breaker.

Cement dust can’t be great either. Goes bloody everywhere but in the mixer usually.

I worked in printing for years.
it was drummed in to me that solvent bottle lids are *always* replaced immediately after use.

second place I worked it was a sacking offence after first warning about it.

went to work at another place a few years afterwards, and I was doing a comparison run of different %flow agents (not solvents).
my boss commented that he'd watched me undo and refasten the lid 30 times in an hour!

Cement dust from a bag i.e. un-cured is very bad for you even in the short term. Concrete dust from cutting concrete and demolition causes silicosis which is debilitating over the long term (basically it causes lung disease).

any idea what I should be googling for? - I normally concrete at weekends on my own, if it's a problem I'll get some masks for the guys working for me who sometimes help if I do any during the week

when I was a kid I used to climb inside the galv drum of a big tripe washer and weld up the splits/cracks

Tripe washers.
You don't see many of these around today, more's the pity. That's what the country needs; a good dose of tripe and onions, cooked in milk.

I had a dose a couple of years ago when I was re-building my bike trailer. There's a particular wall-plate strapping I use a lot of for minor brackets, etc, and even though I had ground the galv off, it obviously wasn't enough and I spent a few days feeling kicked by a house (not horse).

Google pictures of cement burns you'll see horrific stuff on people#s arms and hands, then think about the fact that your body if full of moisture to start the chemical reaction on the inside.

Worked a few years back for a company that makes overhead steelwork for the railways.
All of it was galved. Thick coat of it too, is made to have a service life of 30years.
All mig welded with solid and dual shield.

Every now and then, would get bits that needed altering or changing, so would get the galv chiseled off and cleaned up as best as poss, and stick welded with low-hys as some of it was up to 80mm thick.

One day im nominated to do a days worth of alterations, whilst welding used a disposable 3m fume mask (one with the thick rubber seal round it) and was working just outside the workshop.
That night it came on... shivers, shakes, sore puffy eyes and throat, absolutley no strength at all, and to top it off spent half the night throwing my guts up despite after the first couple of times nothing being there.

Now, will not go near the stuff. Anyine ive worked for since that has asked me, have told them "no problem". But if they think im putting my health on the line to save them a few quid on new materials without them sorting out LEV, as well as providing a new CE rated airfed welding mask with a neck seal, and the same kind but a grinding mask, then they can kiss my Harris lol
