what are the advantages of using this wire over solid wire? Is this a copper coated wire?
You won’t see any difference in weld quality. What disadvantages does it have?
I get confused... For years I specced A18 mig wire... Or ER70S3/6... Now I'm speccing G3Si1... It always does the job cos I make sure I get quality brands, but wondering if I should try some G4Si1... This is all on S275 mild steel
In practice, the G4Si1 weld will have a higher strength than the G3Si1.G3Si and G4Si have the same yield strength of 460 when welding with mixed gas.
the impact value of G3Si is -40 degrees and the impact value of G4Si is -50 degrees this is the only difference from both wires
In practice, the G4Si1 weld will have a higher strength than the G3Si1.
Lincoln classify Supramig Ultra as G50 5 M 4Si1.....higher than Supramig G46 4 M 3Si1Yes, that is correct, but it is about the minimum yield strength that the manufacturer guarantees.
I've read that some Lincoln wires are manufactured in the UK; out of curiosity do you know which ones @TechnicAl ..?

Esab classify their G4Si1 as G46 etc
Yes....thats the same as the Esab classificationLook at UltraMag SG3
