People panic buying won't use more, they'll just fill up less often.
Tinfoil hatters must be having a field day.

I genuinely need some, but I'm not sitting in a queue for an hour..It's a similar theme with food deliveries, media scaremongering..Once I struggled to buy Chicken and another time milk.

A driver for a local grocery says " The warehouse had 85 crew to pick merchandise off of the shelves and load it.
Now there are 15 workers, so in order to be on schedule for all of the distributors, he has to leave with partial loads.
The people that are still working are running themselves to death and may quit at any time.

The problem is something is bought at a disproportianate rate to its usual rate, which then means delays in stock becoming available again. It has a notable knock-on effect.

All because one company, BP is short of drivers.
Starting to think the Govt and media have created this. Govt gets some well needed revenue. And the public get brainwashed into thinking we need cheap European drivers again.
If there was a genuine shortage of anything they'd get the Army in to drive the lorries.

I also really can't see why we can't get some squaddy drivers out of the barracks and do some driving.

Far too simple to do that doesn't create drama

Petrol tanker drivers have an ADR qualification as well as a HGV licence. They need this for them to drive petrol tanker lorries.
There is a shortage of HGV drivers. That's a true fact.
However HGV drivers can't drive a petrol Tanker lorry without having an ADR qualification.
The UK had ADR drivers last week. Nothing changed much in a week. Maybe some holiday or some sickness but not, I doubt a dramatic change.
The ADR drivers that were driving last week are probably driving this week delivering fuel. So nothing changed much.
The petrol panic we are now experiencing is all down too media hype.
It's not because of brexit because all the EU drivers went back to Europe. Which is some of the reasons being banded about.
These EU HGV driver's, left months ago, and yet the country was still getting fuel without problems up until today.

So what's changed? Nothing !!

Apart from the disgraceful media hype and scaremongering to make news. Too sensationalise the fact that a couple of petrol stations were getting a late delivery so they closed.

The Result of the media scaremongering!!

Massive panic and chaos by everyone. Which is now causing a shortage of fuel until the ADR drivers, that we already had delivering fuel a few days ago, can deliver again.
The media should be fined and penalised, severely for publicising false news and creating the crazy situation that has been going on all today. Disgusting. They should hold their heads in shame.

I went to a local ASDA (not a very large ASDA, but much bigger than a Tesco Express) at about 10.30. a.m. Friday morning.

I went with a pre prepared shopping list.

Fresh fruit was limited to apples, satsumas and bananas, so no raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, apricots, kiwi fruit, plums or cherries, all of which they'd usually have, saving the last two which are particularly seasonal.
Cereals limited to boxed Quaker Oats and one box of Kellogs' Honey Nut, there were no other cereals of any brand or type. Normally they'd have a very varied selection
They had a number of quiches but there were no meat pies of any type or size.
I noticed the choice of pizza was very limited but wasn't on my shopping list.
There were no bread rolls, other than 1 reduced pack of 6 beefburger buns.
There were no bagged salads of any sort. There'd usually be a selection of 2 or 3 different types.
There were no stir fry vegetable packs.
Pre sliced cooked ham was limited in choice, none of the type favoured by my wife.
There was no pre packed cooked sliced beef.
There was no gammon, although bacon seemed plentiful as were sausages.
Salted butter limited to Lurpak, no other brands, not even ASDA's own.
No baking potatoes.
No strong white bread flour, although they had wholemeal
No shortage of eggs or milk.
Plenty of alcohol but neither my wife or I drink these days.

There were no obvious empty shelves but what they had was well spread out to fill the available spaces

Just an observation, I can generally get our weekly shop there but not this week although prices noticeably higher.

Douwe Egberts' Pure Gold coffee up from £4.50 to £5.00 to £5.25 over three weekly shops. 16.67%?
With inflation running at least double the ONS' figures (considerably more in the case of Douwe Egberts' coffee) I suspect things will get much worse for those on state pensions or limited means. I can live without coffee, whatever its price.

We don't buy newspapers and pay zero heed to TV news, it's not as if either employ what I'd consider to be journalists.

I usually shop in my local Lidl at Crook and rarely shop at the bigger supermarkets for the simple reason that they're further from home.

Called at Lidl this afternoon and I made a conscious check of their stock and it's just the same as normal. No shortages of anything, far from it, no panic buying muppetry and plenty of choice.

The Wife and I went out for our usual shopping rounds today. Down the valley shelves in the shops were noticeably short and no fuel available. No problem though, as we usually top up when a tank is half empty. So, over the hills to Maesteg, and shopping was as normal without observing anyone seemingly panic buying. Went down the road to the petrol station and topped up without waiting in a long que; the only difference was the price went up by 7 pence a litre.

Heard on the radio an hour ago, the army are going to start driving ambulances to catch up with the backlog of people getting picked up.

I have visions of hypothermic morons sat waiting for petrol overnight......

Our own company had already reamed us out, Western Geophysical were sold out to Baker Hughes, who we knew were going to split us up and flog us off..... despite claims from their CEO “not on my watch”.

Except he then took a $10 million dollar golden umbrella and left.....

As with numerous sectors of the haulage world these days it wouldn't surprise me to learn that tanker drivers are jumping ship for more money.

Traditionally it's always been a well paid job but if you could earn more for pulling a trailer loaded with inanimate goods that aren't prone to exploding why wouldn't you? I recently got my ADR qualification because we occasionally carry fertiliser which comes under hazardous goods regulations but I have to say that no amount of money would persuade me to pull tankers of combustible materials.

And it was only while doing the course in Middlesbrough that I became aware of some of the truly nasty loads that come out of the Teesside area, organic peroxides that can spontaneously combust if they get too warm being at the top of the list . A big wage pcket is nice but for me it's not worth the worry of knowing that I'd be a few heartbeats away from meeting the Almighy...

took me twice as long to get home from work numptys grid locking the streets quing up both sides of the roads to get in the petrol stations!
topped up at home on the drive with 20L of the finest rapeseed oil!

In all truth very rarely, it's just not something I'd be comfortable carrying.

I've carried most things in my time but none of them had the potential to either explode or melt human flesh. Turn it into a red smear on the road if it fell off or the lorry ended up on its side, most certainly, but I've always mitigated that eventuality by restraining it correctly.
