In a Men In Shed we have a fruit/cider press that has seen better days. Made worse by a ham fisted restoration.
The press is one of these.
The issue we have is:
The mesh mag has broken, waiting on a replay from MM/Clarkes to see if they are available as a replacement part.
The wood is mouldy, with black mould, I think it may be fungal.
The steel stand/base was cracked and badly welded together.
The rest if the metal was painted with a cheep paint what seams to stain any cloth when it is cleaned.
So.
Can we use a muslin cloth to hold the pulp?
What is the best wood, beech or oak?
What do the brewers on here think would be the best way to seal the wood?
The metal work, I plan to strip the paint off and clean. Then paint with food approved paint, or would powder coat be better?
The base, I plan to re weld, but it is a casting, so will be "difficult. Could a filler be used?
The brewers on here I seek your advice.
Yes we could buy a new one, but the MIS has asked me to investigate a possible in house repair as all but the powder coat we have on the shelf, so to speak.
