Frosty Windscreens

I have problems with frost on the inside as well as the outside. I stick with good old anti freeze in aerosol format for the outside and let the climate control take care of the inside. Car is warm by the time I have done the outside

I still use the fan heater trick, so much nicer than a freezing van. I do have an Eberspacher too, but it is not permanently plumbed in to the diesel tank yet.

I have never thrown boiling, or even warm, water over a screen. ?Chicken? maybe, but the water will cool down much faster and possibly freeze again making it even worse. You also run the risk of ruining your wiper blades. ?Does de-icer do the same? never used that stuff either.

As Brightspark says too, be careful leaving your vehicle running to warm up, while having a cup of tea indoors. I remember some issues with thefts a few years ago.

there was exactly this reported in the local rag today, and I don't think insurance pay out either, keys in ignition

We had plod on our local news saying it was illegal to leave your car unattended with the engine running. I think they call it quitting

tis true a mate years ago did that gear box was dodgy started making a rattling noise, jumped into gear and lurched forward, luckily it stalled

I fitted a preheater, comes on 45mins before I load it up with tools, by the time I jump in (after disconnecting lead) I can feel the cab heater. And best of all it warms the motor up.

I just start mine 4x4 up and leave it running!

Anything that re-freezes when you get going is dangerous!

Mine freezes inside too. I use only cold water and that also melts the interior ice, ready to be squeegeed off. I wouldn't dream of using hot water, thermal shock is not good for the glass.

That's moisture inside the car.

A couple of my mates with their inferior Mk1 Mazda 3 MPS suffer from condensation and have put industrial sized silica bead bags under their seats and has cured it.

A very long time ago, there was an advert, I think, a cartoon car with a blanket over the top of it and a letterbox-sized hole cut in it, for the driver to see through. Wording was along the lines of ' ?Would you drive around like this?............obviously the answer was in the affirmative.

Well thats cleared that up then,personally once bitten twice shy,when i know its gonna be a frosty night i stick the small greenhouse heater in that warms up the cab(just) and keeps the screen clear,if not just start her up blower on go back indoors for 10 mins,oh before you say about it getting nicked,erm i lock the door,got a spare key you know

I put a piece of camping bed foam on my windscreen (dunno what it's called,but about 10mm thick), jump in van with windows open and blowers on full heat.
by the time i'm outof the estate, windscreen is clear - close windows, and five minutes later, cab is warm.
