Frosty Windscreens

Sad thing is only the passenger side works. The both side are fused separately, have checked fuses, but not has time to check feeds and earths to each side of the screen.

Probably best take it to an auto electrician? :whistle:

You cannot state that ALL chips will eventually break, they will if there's a''run'' in the chip [eventually] but it's a frightener put about by the windscreen companies to frighten you into having them repaired, ie going along the motorway with wife & kids & ''hit a bump'' & there'a a crack [known as a run in the trade] & how frightening is that? well not at all as laminated glass is designed to hold it's integrity ~& can be replaced when convenient, I've allways used lukewarm water sprinkled all over my windscreens & never had a breakage or a run,[& never will either] you will if you use boiling hot water in one spot due to uneven thermal expansion.

ahh but the ones that have chips in them and don't crack you will never ever see, so all the cracked windscreens you see that do originate from a crack the glass companies will put down as a 100% crack rate from chips because they have no way to record how many screens have chips that don't crack because they will never see them

"Ma windscreens got a case o' the runs" (it all came from a small crack and was mostly due to some bad chips ) :vsad:

your chip had a run in it and it would go sooner or later. all u have to do is press on it and it will go

Half true.

I don't understand the argument against chips cracking (and companies making money from scaremongering), as most people can have these repaired for free.

If it's a repairable chip, it has a chance of cracking. Any penetration through the upper layer can let water in, and either rot the laminate, or freeze and crack.

Repairing a chip also has an environmental benefit, as the energy required to make glass, and then make plate glass into a windscreen is far greater that what it takes to carry out a repair.

how can it be half true its either true or its not
chips that let water in between layers will obviously crack when it freezes, but chips that don't go through the first layer may never crack and as such you will never see them

yes u can have them repaired free and the companys do make money the more they get . off the insurance companys so its in there interest to say they will crack when in fact quite a lot wont i have 3 chips and they havent run and not likely 2 if the screen goes il just get it replaced for 50 quid excess and put the bill in to my business :laughing:

and if the chip was in front of my driving vision id just bust the screen and get a new one as i dont like any imperfections on vision

Because we repair a lot before they crack off, so that's some that chip, and never crack.

If you have ever had to make a claim, ypu will know insurance companies don't like to pay money out. They obviously see a benefit to them in repairing chips before they crack.

but you will never know if any of those repaired chips would have continued into a crack :whistle:

I see, its the cat that walks on the chipped screen that cracks it in the end nothing to do with the temperature at all :laughing:

now all we need is cat repellent and you lot are out of business :whistle:
