Yep, a Simca Aronde 9, my '56 Massey Harris Pony tractor uses a engine originally designed for the Aronde 9, and I've seen the insides of the engine block sadly after the first engine I had threw a rod through the crankcase wall immediately on arriving at my house. Spare partially siezed engine it came wiht had some snails evicted from the sump and got a shed rebuild and is still running fine 10+ years later though. Later ones like the P60 got a 5 bearing journal crank in place of the weak 3 bearing one like mine. Wonder why...

brothers first car was a simca, boxy like a hillman imp, did loads of running repairs to it , but was great fun to drive according to him ,rear engine , light on front , so put a bag of sand in to weigh the frnt down, handled great then.

Simca also made lathes, as I recall, and very good ones too.
Cazeneuve made very high class lathes at their factory in Albert, which looked pretty battered, like much of that area, but certainly delivered the goods.....
One of the Vernier shapers would be well worth getting, but I'd reckon that they hold their value and then some, even if one could be found....

Simca, Peugeot, Cazeneurve, Renault, H Ernault, SOMA, Matra, Celtic, Precis, innovations mechanique etc and thats just the common lathes. I often see 2t monstrosity lathes for sale and think about getting them because I might one day need to turn a lorry propshaft or a boat propshaft but machine tools here are expensive because a lot of engineering still happens here, and that keeps prices high too. IMHO a lot of cheap 3 phase machine tools in the uk were fire sale stuff after maggie and co had decimated english industry and it stayed in a slow decline ever since. I paid less than their value in scrap for my surface grinder & my jcb in the UK and had them brought over, because it was still cheaper than buying the same locally even with transport costs.

There's a GSP (french made) shaper which is all hydraulic with a extra axis on the table ways so you can tilt the whole table besides the tool post in the headstock. They must weigh over a ton but take a load of floor space up because you need somewhere clear behind for the ram to retract. There was a GSP factory in Chateaudun not that far from where I am but it was shut in 1979, and has only begun to be built over after demolition this year.

I've a Cazeneuve lathe, used to have an Estafette, but it died a rust related death.

I've a Citroen HY, awaiting restoration.

Just need to find my motivation and get up and go.

Learnt to drive in a Simca Montelerhy, owned numerous Simca 1000 imp style thing but nicer.

Dad used to own a Simca 1501 estate in the 70's, if you had something really long you could wind down the rear window and have it sticking out the back.
