Goodbye overtaking hello strategy . Welcome to the new improved F1 . Next step is to do away with the drivers and then the actual cars .......OH NO ! Just realised tomorrow is already yesterday in the virtual world. Many years ago a very well known M/C race tuner said that would be a good idea to do away with all the racing bit and just put the engines on the Dyno to find the winner.I would love to be proved wrong but I fail to see how a track you can't overtake on is a sensible idea.
I never got that far or the army of brooms needed after every off. It's a pet hate of mine tracks where you can't overtake.Covered in wind blown sand as it always was.
Perhaps it 's because the can drive around the circuit without actually taking too many chances. Just playing follow my leader and using the DRS to thrill the "fans" .I never got that far or the army of brooms needed after every off. It's a pet hate of mine tracks where you can't overtake.
Apart from that I am quite surprised at the amount of drivers who love it.
I actually like the ideas but the implementation looks to me that it wil be worse than Monaco. That said most drivers love Monaco...perhaps I am not nostalgic enough.
My son was gifted a track slot at Silverstone today and said even the cut down circuit was awesome.....let hope I am proved wrong tommorow.![]()
I'm with you on that, it's a bl00dy awful raceThat's why I hate Monaco.
Same thing. Lol.Just watched the final F3 race,
3 yellow flags
2 time penalties
1 virtual safety car
winner from pole to flag.
lets see what happens this afternoon.
He did abort it. He would have been a lot quicker.Ha Ha, try to tell a driver, who is going to leave team. to abort his fastest lap attempt. Never going to happen was it?
Different racing lines are also in the 3.40 at Chepstow. But at least they can use them all to race.Thought it was a great track and race, loads of overtaking, best new track for different racing lines for overtaking for ages.
@ukracer were you watching the 3:40 at Chepstow![]()
The other difference is that if you crash at Chepstow and write off your steed at least you can eat it , Try that with carbon fiber.Different racing lines are also in the 3.40 at Chepstow. But at least they can use them all to race.
As I said above. It was not as bad as I expected. The fact they have to run at least two types of tyre brought strategy into play unlike F3.
I accept the drivers loved it. I would be seriously interested as to whether the F1 doubters thought it was an improvement.
Those racing line on the banking were not overtaking places. They converged at the exit.
It amazes me that after umpteen million pounds spent/ waisted on F1 and millions of man hours involved in dev/R&D , promotion etc that the main topic of conversation over the majority of this season is the " will he won't he sign " . Does it matter who actually guides the cars anymore ? When I see the cars line up on the grid in 2 by 2 order just like the animal species waiting for Noah to wave them aboard then just how much difference does a driver make ? A friend of mine who worked at Williams gave me some tickets to watch the B.G.P a few years ago. He made the comment that the guys at the back were just as quick as the ones at the front it was just the cars that made the difference. By the way ,does the F in F1 mean Formula or Farce? Don't forget it's only entertainment !Slowest driver in the (nearly) slowest car.....
