I quite like this idea
I will coat the under side too then with the sealant. Well if it warps the top will get replaced with metal... at least it didn't coast me any thingI'd definitely concentrate on weatherproofing your worktop, my son made an outside bar/barbecue, under cover but in the garden, made no effort to protect the worktop presuming it being under cover was sufficient. It didn't last long long, cut edges went first then it warped as it absorbed moisture from the underside. I hope it does a job for you but might be an idea to keep an eye out for scrap pieces of 18mm/25mm marine ply on Face Book Marketplace, or Freegle/Freecycle, then if necessary screw/laminate a few together.
I got a 8ft x 3' 6"sheet of 18mm for free, been used as a cutting board, it was being skipped.
I know what you are saying but it will be folded up and away when not in use. It will not become a dumping ground. Its under the car port so people could come up the drive and thief the gear on it!Once it is down and a horizontal surface exposed, it will never, ever be folded back down.
Put some doors on the end of the carport thenI know what you are saying but it will be folded up and away when not in use. It will not become a dumping ground. Its under the car port so people could come up the drive and thief the gear on it!
I had thought about it but planning states a car port should be open on 2 sides, mine is closed on 3 now! I might be pushing my luckPut some doors on the end of the carport then
nice job i like that idea. this may be my job for the weekend been so busy this week. I have materials left over from the shed build so I will use them up even though they may be a bit overkill!I did this out of 3" x 2" square edge timber and bolted a length of 3 x 2 on the wall then a few heavy duty hinges to make it lift it up and down, the legs are just on gate hinges with some velcro glued on to allow them to stay in place when in storage mode, The cut out for the chop saw was made to keep the saw bed and surface at the same levels. Just to note it have never been that tidy since it was installed View attachment 323603View attachment 323604View attachment 323605
plan is to use 100x100 legs and frame the edges with the 100x100 also and have the legs set 100mm back from the frame so the frame stops the legs foling down past verticle. I did think about making some metal ones but I have loads of hinges here alreadyCan't you just make up some hinges with stops so that they only fold 90deg?
Then you could have it folded up when not in use but would be able to unhook it and drop it down to use. No faffing about pulling legs out.
9 times out of 10, when you want to use it, you will have just walked out there with the stuff you want to put on it so at least one arm will be full and setting up drop-down legs soon gets boring.
You need a fold down wall!I had thought about it but planning states a car port should be open on 2 sides, mine is closed on 3 now! I might be pushing my luck
