I asked at the local garages who they use for fitting, certification and insurance assessment and went with the one the majority locally recommended. Nice bunch. Father came out and looked over the lift, muttered about what good quality the old stuff was (its a 1977 Bradbury). Told me what bits I needed and when he could fit. I had budgeted more for the lift without fitting so this all worked out very well. His two lads came out to fit. All done and wired up and working in a day. Tidy job and i knew it was all good.

When I bougth mine I took the safety locking mechanism apart completely, cleaned and painted it and put it back together. Replaced a few needle bearings because I could.
The steel cables I inspected but could not see any damage so I put them back, not sure when they would need replacing, is it periodically?
Mine do get relatively little use for proffesional, well dimensioned lifting gear, but I do think they are at least 30 years old.

Haha. The safety mechanism on mine are arms that run up and down on smooth poles and will lock on them as the angle of the hole in the arm changes if the ramps drop suddenly. If I hadnt had it fitted and someone explain what those poles do and how the safety mechanism works, i would have oiled the poles to keep the rust off and allow everything to run smoothly!!

If you tinker and have the space having a vehicle lift is a no brainer. I have a 4 post and a 2 post. I find people are generally surprised and assume they cost a fortune yet both of mine together cost way less then what people will spend on a large TV. I can say without hesitation my lifts have saved/made me money and are easily worth what I paid for them which is more than I can say for any of my TVs :laughing:

Seeing one of your cars up on your own lift is a euphoric moment.

Agree with all of that. I would like a 2 post as well - when one comes up at the right price, the space is ready!

According to the law of sod it will be x+100mm where x is the length of the beam thingy

Most of the beams can be extended a certain amount I think. Mine doesnt have one, it has wheels free beams instead - great for the land rovers. Too proud of the ramps for modern cars.

Yep, it's extendable, max length 1m14.3, (45 inches).

Minimum, 75cms, (29.5 inches).

If it doesn't fit, I'll make it fit.

The other thing to be aware of is the arms will be for a specific format. Some lift have uplifts on the sides of the platform, thats what mine has and it looks like the one you are buying has so the beam needs to hook over those edges. Some have flat platforms, some have a channel below the platform. All of these things affect the way the arms are built.

If the arms hook over then they left floating to allow for dimensional differences, if the platform is flat then the arms are fixed.

I've got 3 Majorlift units and they have spring loaded rollers but I also have an an Epco which just slides metal on metal.
