So this is a little bit of two post's into one,
I'm new to the forum so a big hello to every one, quite new to welding done some in the past but is been a few years.
I'm a sparky by trade, was in the game for over 10 years but been in the building trade all my life, but after the loss of my daughter I was off a year or so due to depression then got back on the horse for a few years then our 2 year old was diagnosed with autism and we found it took me and my partner to care for him and also our older son.
So being a care daddy I decided to looking into something to do from home little projects and stuff.
So my big project is building a 1m x 1m CNC router and as I started the metal work I wasn't overly happy with all the nuts and bolts and decided to talk with my uncle (been in fabrication since I can remember) and we started going on about welding would be a massive improvement instead of nuts and bolts plus this would help me by improving my sort of welding skills (if you can call them skills).
So I came across a so called mig welder the auto jack mig 130 (in reality it's a flux core) price was right and I knew with some modifications we can have mig.
These a few good thing about the welder right from the start the torch isn't constantly live, the voltage is variable, and loads of room inside.
I'm planning on installing a euro torch to add a gas line, and running a gas solenoid via the torch trigger, so this will be mig, plus a bridge rectifier so it will be dc, but I'm not overly sure on smoothing out the dc, to use a coil or caps around 45000 uf
Any advice on this would be much appreciated.
Also making it so I can change polarity of the welder + - for the electrode.
One problem is the duty cycle at only 60 amps @ 60% and 120 amps @ 10%,
But my uncle told me not to worry to much as I'm quite new to weld and I need to learn how to do my welding in sequence and this will help with heat in the work, but I'm looking into upping the duty time even if it's just an extra 10% or 15%, yet again any additional information would be fantastic.
So that's pretty much my story so far, sorry for rambling on and any feedback would be much appreciated so a big thanks and I look forward to stalking the forum
