Fitting a tow bar. (Need to read)

Why anyone would fit a tow ball to a 207 beats me but she's happy and I remain puzzled as to why her premium was reduced.

To tow a trailer/mount a bike rack/use as a reversing sensor?

I have a 2" receiver hitch on my Jeep GC, its not type approved in the UK so I can't use it for towing, recovery purposes only

My dad once had a 3 litre Granada, way back in the 80’s, for towing the caravan. He got rear ended at traffic lights in town, just a gentle tap, but the car that hit his tow bar was ruined, radiator blowing water out, metal and plastic busted up.

And it was brand new. The guy had picked it up that very morning from the dealer and was driving around getting used to it. He was almost in tears.

Had a few cars saved because I had a towbar, the offending vehicles which rear ended me did not fare so well.

Had a few cars saved because I had a towbar, the offending vehicles which rear ended me did not fare so well.

I had someone rip the side of their car open when they pulled out in front of my Landy, my only damage was a crack in the 99p plastic towball cover, I had to turn it round to hide the crack.

I put a tow bar on a fire truck in the summer that was twin 80x40 box stitched together and then reinforced to the central chassis ( twin 260x75 I beam, it was insanely strong as it ran through the middle of the watertank) with 6x 100x50mm PFC channel legs.
If he ever goes down the side of a car it'll probably open it like a tin of sardines without him even noticing

I checked in with Allianz today. They now cover towbars as standard and no need to tell them you have one. They only thing she noted was the trailer is only covered for 3rd party - I presume that means if my trailer hits someone they are covered but my trailer itself is not.

I never asked mine . . . does it still need to be tied to the car to be covered, or once it's detached, it's no longer their worry as it overtakes you?

im covered for my trailer 3d party. i said it was home made and they said providing it was legal im covered

I once had a trailer stolen. Unbeknown to me NFU provided free trailer cover. Max £1000. This was back in about 2010. They paid me out in full. The trailer i have just built would cost around £12k to replace

I have had specific trailer insurance to cover it all the time before - now I rely on stored it with the wheels off and locked away - with the benefit the tyres last a lot longer too.

I used to have to keep my trailer on the drive at my last house so I removed one wheel and locked it in the garage, I think my nosey parker neighbour wanted me to get rid of it as she told me the local kids would wheel it off the drive and roll it up and down the road while I was at work if they had been they always managed to park it in exactly the same position as I had left it.
