First restoration underway

My mr2 is now been taken off the road for winter and it is also getting some light restoration done.
Just starting to cut bits off sad to see my car like this but I am actually enjoying the job
Anyone have any magic solutions to removing under seal/waxoly

heat and a scraper is usually the easiest way, be carefull not to let it catch fire though

If it's old and hard try a needle gun, or a large sharp wood chisel. If not coming off give it a good soak with petrol or heat on the opposite side of the panel then use the needle gun or chisel to scrape it off.

As above, I've had good results with a heatgun+scraper to remove the worst, "clean+strip" disc to get the bits that are left then a wipe over with thinners to get the residue off.

The safest way is a heat gun and scraper. Make certain your interior trim is either removed the preferred option or at least well away from areas where welding is to take place. When welding on cars / truck cabs I like someone sitting inside with a very wet towel. But I was trained that way.

Finally got to the end off the rot. Got a fair bit of fabrication to do on this side luckily the near side is in much better nick

Start making bits today with some spare time.
This took a while but am pretty happy with what was achieved for my first attempt.
Only used a 4" grinder, hammer, bit of 4x4 timber used to shape the sheet.
Any sheet working tricks are more than welcome

looks like youre getting on well with sheet steel and a hammer, so I doubt bending the sills is going to cause you any trouble (I found them easy to make), but apparently you can buy sills for the MK2 now - no modifications needed! I haven't actually seen them yet, but a mate is looking at getting some to do his MK2 soon. £65 / side I think from a guy called MR2-BEN, based in Wrexham (google him).

...if you get some, let me know how good they are!

I used a twisted wire wheel in a grinder and Star-chem stripper to take the underseal off, it's a hateful, tedious, dirty, laborious task.

Yeah I bought complete sills from a guy on eBay not mr2ben as the chap I got from provided wheel arch link up parts which are handy

Broke out the mig this morning expecting nothing but holes burnt everywhere, However the wee Clarke earned it's keep chuffed.
The material on the mk2 is basically what you'd use to wrap your Christmas turkey so lots of time and small spots was all that was on really

Nice job Rusty,
I don't know if have overlapped the tacks to form a cintinuous weld, I would advise it and also rattle can some primer on the insde panels before welding the outer ones on, makes the repairs last longer.
BTW I would have thought this thread would be in the Automotive projects along with mine and others

Cheers mate. Yeah the weld will be continuous when finished but it's time consuming trying to keep the heat down.
I have zinc primer spray for protection followed by some regular primer
