First attempt at citric acid bath cleaning.

I think that in the past you'd have just painted it, but perhaps now we see beauty (nostalgia) in such vintage kit when it's just waxed or oiled? You think about the men and the place where it was made (long gone) and all the many people who have used it over its long life. I think I'm changing my mind to this approach - not that I am taking my lead from the "antique dealers", but may be because there have been a few Fred Dibnah progs on TV recently and that's made me do a re-think. Why isn't Fred on the TV every day!!!

Because he past away.
He made a few series and a lot of disappointed people.

He let the fame rule his head.

Right got linseed oil, beeswax, new cup brush for the grinder, found some interesting metal anti rust treatment I didn't know I had and some black paint for metal, need to find a plug to stick on my bench grinder wire wheel and we're off. Back later.

I did another one I chucked in with no prep.

I also touched up a few adjustables to keep the rust at bay.

I can see this becoming addictive.

Just a bit of feedback from my experience, some steels come out fairly clean, others come out covered in a black residue. If it comes out black, wash it down immediately in hot soapy water and scrub with a scotch pad. That will take off the black.

PS I always wash and degrease thoroughly before dipping in the citric. Don't know if citric and detergent in together will work.

I usually jet wash the black stuff off once derusted

I recognise that vice. I had one. Rubbish vice, lots of racking. Still, when you see a clay covered lump of rust being sold as a garden ornament and recognise it as an early Parkinson wood vice, you can only do your best to try and save it!
