It isn't if you spend your time productively rather than wasting it making pointless posts on internet forums
.I collect scrap wood every day which I saw up while waiting to load or unload, and I have a couple of year's worth of dry wood in the store which didn't cost me a penny, just a bit of time and energy.

I have tried to give logwood away on here when we are working off our patch, there was at least ten ton of handleable chogs and over forty ton of corded firewood on one in Hertford,I think members on here managed to collect about three tons and the rest went for biomass.It’s a ball ache for us to go back and see the biomass trucks in, there will probably be a better response /turnout next time I offer

i seperate what i call kinderling wood pieces into seperate piles but leave them to split when needed
the bigger thickness pieces get choped up and stacked ready for the winter months
Do you work weekends?
Do you work weekends if the mon-fri pays enough?
Do you decide weekends are your/family time?
I worked out it was more cost effective to burn more solid fuel (multi-fuel stove) - so local fuel merchant delivered in a week or two ago - admittedly, catching me by surprise, as he reckoned it would be a week or more before he had a full load to be worth doing a run around his customers. Must have been a busy few days, so he delivered a few days later.

Picking 2 ton bags of oak 1st thing in the morning..got to get it while its available as come dec/jan there wont be any without a bank loan. My cousin has a logging business and i look after his 18 ton splitter and saws all year so this is now my return of cousin love

I've invited almost everyone I know to come over and help themselves to standing dead timber, trees in overly dense areas, or recently fallen trees for firewood (or whatever), but firewood is cheap enough around here that most people won't go to the trouble of cutting it themselves, even if it's free. And to be honest, I've been so busy with other projects that I haven't bothered to cut any firewood myself. We're still heating with oil.
When oil prices were going up, I was tempted to shift priorities and take the time to install a wood-fired boiler, but with fuel costs coming back down, it probably won't happen this year.On our 46-acre lot, we have over 25 acres of trees, which haven't had any maintenance for many years other than minor pruning at the edge of the fields or along the road to the back of the property. To show the tree coverage, here are a couple of 'hillshade' images of our lot that I created using GIS software and LiDAR survey data. One image includes structures and vegetation, and the other is a 'bare-earth' image with structures and vegetation LiDAR 'returns' filtered out by the software. The coloring is just for showing relative elevation. The lot slopes down to a small marsh and borders a tidal stream that feeds into the river.

Could do with a friendly tree person near South Manchester that wants a log tip site, tried on arbtalk but it seemed a bit complex. Might have to register myself on their tip list. The Ashley farm arb waste place is nearby and he was happy for me to go and get stuff there, but I don't have van/trailer so again complex. Scavenge all neighbours felled trees, construction timber and pallets, but you can never get enough!
