Firewood suppliers

Could do with a friendly tree person near South Manchester that wants a log tip site, tried on arbtalk but it seemed a bit complex. Might have to register myself on their tip list. The Ashley farm arb waste place is nearby and he was happy for me to go and get stuff there, but I don't have van/trailer so again complex. Scavenge all neighbours felled trees, construction timber and pallets, but you can never get enough!

We tip off anything that doesn't go into the biomass or sawlog woodpile outside our gate , the general public help themselves for free.

Firewood here has gone up from 230€ for three cubic metres of dry oak, to 330€ in the last few months delivered.

Found some at 220€, 20 km drive load and discharge by me ....

Pretty sure if you made contact with a couple of local tree surgery outfits you would be inundated with chogs.

I can get wood from a tree surgeon, mixture of hardwood and softwood, £20 per cubic metre, it’s unseasoned though so I have to get loads early spring, and it’s collection only so a trailer is required.
Its just a case of being motivated to get it and do the work when you don’t need the wood so it’s seasoned and ready for when you do, though I tend to get it locally for free when I can.
Lea it to the last minute is going to cost especially if someone else has chopped and seasoned it for you.

Everyone that has cut trees near here has been offered, had conifer taken off them gratefully etc, but never come back. I'll keep trying!

Local surgeon dumps his rejects at the farm near here and we cut and split it for us and them. A lot of it has been standing in piles for years so it is ready for burning straight away. A lot of it is branch unions so makes for interesting splitting but my petrol 18 ton splitter manages everything we've hit it with so far. I've fixed their saws when they packed up and ordered bits for them online as they don't do computers, all works out nicely.

Yes the last thing you want to be doing in May is spending days getting, chopping and stacking firewood for use the next winter.

I find it wears a bit thin after a while. And Im running out of decent stuff to split. Far easier to pay the log-man in the village to bring a few cube ready split!
The free stuff…is always right place at the right time!

Me too strangely, but come what May there’s loads of other outdoor jobs to do which also needs doing at the same time….. Old house, never ending projects!

The bloke who had our house in the 40s planted sitka spruce. Horrible things, crap firewood but it's free. I'm still splitting it with an axe some of the rounds are easy 3 foot across. It doesn't split very well.
