Looks like a wheel rim with a section welded on.I wonder what the cutting 'drum' is made from. Big Gas bottle?

What sort of reduction box would that be?
That would be a handy machine. With a guard fitted of course.

I'd certainly be tempted to make something like that if I had a tractor with a PTO. I did think about the possibility of doing it with a hydraulic motor but the cost of the bits coupled with the likelihood of not having a high enough flow rate anyway meant the idea went no further.
As for the contraption in the OP... well I finished the last of the 5 tonnes or so of the small diameter stuff we'd collected earlier today. I expected to come across a few issues along the way or spot bits needing improvement but apart from needing a clip to hold empty bags upright until they fill out a bit I didn't come across one
It's worked faultlessly from beginning to end and I can't emphasise enough just how much bending and backache it has saved. Now the wood is done I can now take it apart add the finishing touches and give it a paint job.

The things i would change-
I wouldnt have the guillotine around the full radius of the rim, to give more opening time to feed the wood before the start of the cut.
I would fit a guard, like a heavy mesh drum around the cutting wheel and short tunnel guard to feed through.
A cut length stop inside so you can cut to a desired length reliably.
As far as gearbox goes, if youre in an agricultural environment, maybe an old muck spreader or something could donate a gearbox.The PTO gearbox on the tractor will give the ability to select the desired drive ratio.

I meant circumference, not radius, but i bet you got the idea what i meant
If you look in this vid, theres a short length of straight edge before the slope of the cutting edge starts, allowing more time to feed the wood.
