Finally good quality 2 stroke fuel hose

Anyone repairing their small 2 stroke garden equipment will have to replace fuel hoses now and again. Usually it's this type of hose:



The above aftermarket hose types which will be the top search results when buying replacement hose is terrible quality. It will harden up only a few months after install and just isn't good enough quality.

Hence I was relieved when I discovered you can buy genuine stihl black rubber fuel hose by the metre quite inexpensively from ebay etc. Part number here for what it's worth. Definitely worth having some on the shelf for this type of work and it will fit most brands of equipment too like husqvarna etc.

The first type is nylon or pvc hose with plasticiser. When the plasticiser washes out it will harden up but usually not need replacing until it needs to be disturbed. I have some (halfords winscreen washer hose) as the fuel hose on my 125cc motorbike that has been on there about 10 years.

The second pic is rubber hose, if its real genuine from a proper shop, thats good.
Theres a lot of fake stuff about which doesnt like ethanol fuels and will rot and leak very quickly.

I installed a small metal and plastic in line hose and filter on a bike a few years back, ‘Ethanol Proof’ it said on the wrapper. Next morning it was hanging down, dissolved, literally. I’m thinking it was chinesium…..
Luckily the fuel had been turned off so I only lost what was in the hose.

I recently changed some rubber fuel hose on my car that is stamped to show it was made in March 2022. The reason that I changed it was because it was cracking and and that was J30 R9 hose which is supposed to the the current spec, and that was used with a low pressure fuel pump (for a carburettor) on E5 fuel.
