I forgot he was trying to weld body work, yes stupid of me to say an arc will work for that.
The thing is I have that SIP welder and I can tell you it will never work, however hard you try, the output is A.C. to start with and it uses constant voltage type transformer, the wire feed simply doesn't work for any good, you can't see the arc very well with all the smoke, and if you think your going to see a weld pool think again.
Its a piece of junk, i'm not critising anybody other than SIP, I was in the same boat as you Mr. Sam with that welder.
dump it and move on to something that actually works.

Sounds a very nasty welder. Might be worth eBaying it and buying a nice Clarke. Though the machine should be capable of more thana that.
The combination of a nasty welder, hand held mask with wrong shade, gasless wire and positional welding on a car are probably the most tricky conditions for learning welding.
Changing to a reasonably good welder, full face mask, preferably with auto-dimming, and practicing on clean scrap sheet rather than a car would make life much easier. The little disposable bottles of shielding gas with appropriate wire make learning easier still.
And read the tutorial. Torch too far away, wire speed too high, welding speed too fast could also cause that sort of thing.

Have to disagree agin. See that threaded hole in the pic? Thats a seat belt mount. That make it structural anywhere withing a 30cm diameter ball of that point. I bet on the under side its also withing that 30cm of a suspension mount too.

Well done for trying it out on a car... but my comments would echo the concern everyone else has expressed.
Do a bit more READING of this site before your next welding session, check out the tutorials and practice on scrap. This will get you started with real welding.

quite right justme,it is 30cm,dunno where i got 12cm from???must have been near bedtime ! only been mot`ing 12 years!

good job nobody from VOSA on here!thanks for all the comments and sujestions yes its gasless wire and its sip wire and yes im saving up for a clarke gas mig
and no im not giving details as he is a really good tester he fiddled around for nearly an hour trying to get the emissions right even went to the trouble of borrowing a compression tester from the garage next door and hunting through a massive book to set the spark plug gaps right, to be fair until i started poking around it wasnt too bad and of course it was all under the carpet
ill doo some more practice before i touch the car again
besides ive got some engine work todo as the new alternators packed in and ive just got electronic ignition.........i can do engines, body work and cosmetics i couldnt care less about as long as it goes through an MOT

its the wire that was allready in it, i didnt actually read to see what it was come to think of it
