If you are keen, take the lid of and send some pictures. Then we can advise where to (extremely carefully) connect your meter. Otherwise yeah call IFL.No it won’t weld,or even create a spark, yes the amp display value returns as you pull the rod away.tried the usual fiddling to no avail.yes a 151.i have a meter, but wouldn’t know where to stick it. Thanks for the help so far?
Second photo, dead centre: an IGBT, with a small component on tags between the main bolted terminals - looks pretty smoky!check for:
- any sign of blackened or burnt components
That is interesting, and explains one of the unique features of the compact and light IFL welders - they use planar transformers, which use thin copper sheets instead of wire windings. This combats the "skin effect" at the high frequencies ( 50 to 100 kHz ) used in inverter welders, where current only flows in a very thin outer layer of a conductor. At 50kHz, this is only 300 microns thick. Other inverter welders usually use multi-strand "Litz" wire in their transformers. The boards IFL use are handily marked HiMag who have a UK base in Gloucester.
