My sisters boyfriends family are one of the largest importers of Chinese goods into the U.K.

They are also one of the biggest air rifle importers and sellers.

They have 4 people on rotation in China looking out for the next big thing to import

They report that there are multiple qualities of everything.

There’s the original, the fake and then a reproduction of the fake

All made in different factories by different groups and organisations

They have been involved in this business for 20 years and know a thing or two.

I think if/when we develop quantum computers with realistic numbers of qubits that will represent the biggest single technological breakthrough since the invention of the wheel. It is a biggie and (while I seriously don’t have a clue what I am talking about) quantum computing and AI pear to go hand in hand.

AI is not a prerequisite for blockchain, that was just me going off on one, blockchain is the key technology to combat quantum computing because QC allows entire encrypted databases to be hacked at will. Password protection (lit cryptography) relies on the vast oceans of time it would take a classical computer to calculate relatively simple sums (factoring prime numbers) something that QC can do in the blink of an eye.

If you don’t believe me, go look it up. Certainly the “bad actors” like China/Russia etc are hoovering up and storing encrypted information right now on the grounds that one day they’ll easily be able to pop them open.

AI on the other hand is still but a dream. A human conceit since if you ask me, we haven’t even come up with a cast iron description of what AI really means anyway.

But yes, managing a blockchain is something even dumb classical computers can do so it is coming for those reasons I suggest. Unless you know better?

Quantum proof encryption already exists, its just not used at the moment because its not an issue (lack of quantum computers). Many encryption systems can be easily upgraded when required, including various well known blockchains, its not really a worry for most crypto enthusiasts!

I am beyond my limit of understanding already. Just googling this stuff to get a flavour for it is both interesting and mentally exhausting. I think quantum cryptography and blockchain will develop together to complement each other. It does sort of take humans out of the equation and you have to trust whoever gets there first is indeed trustworthy. I think China (it would be wouldn't it) already have quantum based communications channels which by their very nature are impossible to intercept. Apparently entangled photons fired down fibre optic. If anyone tries to intercept it, it changes the data irretrievably because you can't possibly recreate or clone an entangled particle.

It is a big question I know so an opinion would be fine. My opinion is no; the state controls everything. I think even the UK and the US are arguing the toss over this precise issue so we're in good company.

Theres a few decent books on quantum physics/ quantum mechanics - the trouble with physics is a good read, though it’s been a few years since I have dipped my toe in these waters. I used to travel a lot more in a previous job so I had lots of time to spend reading (I managed to get through a brief history of time more than once), rather happily I don’t spend so much time away nowadays so I tend not to read as much.

Sub-contractor "extras" has always been. In the rag trade (iirc) it's called "lettuce". Dior doesn't make the "ready to wear" items, they sub the design and fabric to a third party. Enough material for ten items, but if you cut the patterns closer etc you might be able to make eleven or twelve. Fill the order for Dior and sell the extras for pure profit.

Off topic I know … I understand that nearly 45 years ago light shone from several satellites in space on to wide spaced array of receivers ( each receiver 200mtrs apart or so ) on earth were being used for secure communications . If you are not in the place the lights hits you can't time it with the other lights to get the signal/message . Now we can tap into fibre optics with ease surely it wouldn't take a quantum computer long to work out the message if it was all being sent down a single fibre optic fibre

Join up on one of the MOOC's like EDX and run with one of their higher levels subjects on such things . if you want a real grounding and latest research stuff … The last course I did was about 5 hrs a week over seven weeks & was free .

MOOC = Massive Online Open Content ..usually a series of interactive lessons from some of the worlds top universities research units often for free unless you want a certificate for it .

The trick to quantum communication is that it uses entangled pairs of particles. You can't just tap into the communication because you don't have the other half and if you eavesdrop, as soon as the particle is detected or read, it decoheres and cannot be replicated or cloned (you still don't have its formerly entangled partner).

I would love to but I have to run a thousand miles an hour just to stand still. I never got back on my feet after some pretty hard news regarding my health. Self-employed covers a multitude of sins, I really ought to be either on the dole or sick benefit. It is one of the reasons this COVID-19 thing makes me somewhat wary of its predilection for those with immune deficiencies, plus of course I can't afford to be ill at all anyway.

It would be tempting to pass this virus off as "media hype" and "blown out of proportion" but looking at those empty streets and the gigantically expensive steps so many countries are taking to mitigate the effects, I wonder if there's more to this than meets the eye. I mean ok, cancel an F1 race, close the gates on footie but cancel the Olympics?? To even consider such a thing points to a more serious situation and certainly means it merits more consideration. You know, just in case

had a couple of digiflavour siren 2's off ebay I knew were fake on purchase, way too cheap to be genuine. both work a treat and seem well made enough to be 'fake fakes'.
seen a few devilbiss spray guns recently on ebay that are clearly fake due to their cheap price, but if they are exact copies would they be as good as the original
