Just ignore them an plough on. Last house I had the old bat next doors son banging on my door telling me I was clearly running a business because I was restoring a Land Rover on the drive, and that you “can’t do that sort of work at home anyways” he finished his little speech by telling me I “wouldn’t want to fall out with him if I know what’s best”

I told him he could leave under his own steam or I could assist him, and to phone the council if he’s that convinced I was running a business. Funnily enough I never heard sight nor sound afterwards

He'll be getting a polite "hello" at most, certainly no good will that's for sure!

He's also harping on about an oil tank that the previous owners moved and installed "illegally". he's had building control out to inspect it and the BCO has confirmed (in writing) that it is fine where it is and complies with the regs.
This is forming part of his objection now and it seems he's been egging another neighbour on about it as well.
Hopefully that will just undermine him further in the eyes of the council.
I should have listened to my gut instinct on this rather than giving him the benefit of the doubt!


I mistakenly judged others by my standards. Lesson learned there!

To many busy bodies these days..just march on and ignore, remembering he has re-wrote the neighbor initiative for the future now

All planning objection letter should be public documents and visible on your local planning portal.

They should be but they are not, the only time names are put to letters of objection are during the planning appeal processes. A lot of nimby`s now object to the parish council who will do their dirty work for them namelessly . As mentioned the complaints need to be of substance or they will be rejected.

Yup, this really is what it boils down to.
I think I've pretty much covered as much as I can in terms of objections where I can dispel them by offering factual cases. The remainder is missguided oppinion which there isn't much I can do about.
Just got to talk to the planning people once they've reviewd the application and the letters and hopefully doscounted most of that as being irrelevent (heres to hoping...)

So far the 3 letters do have the names on them. Although I am still waiting to see what the parish council said as they met earlier this week and my appliction was on their agenda. I had tried to discuss it with one of the councillors before hand but timings never worked out and I wasn't able to attend the meeting this week to hear anything first hand. Unfortunately I do know that said neighbour used to be a parish councllor. On the other hand, the chair of the parish council is my best mates uncle-inlaw so swings and roundabouts I guess.

after reading this post, I must say I am so lucky to live in Poland... 3ph comes as obvious and obligatory in every household to distrubite load evenly, it would be impossible and illegal to build a house without 3ph here... and asking your neighbours for anything? that just made my day..

ya know sat here chilling and reading through these replies it brings back years gone by and why i dont bother with neighbours here and do as i please now and not to please others.

When i moved here 17 years ago into SWMBO`s house back then. i worked on cars in the corner plot/garden area in the open area on my cars and built 4x4 and then on the neighbours cars when they got to know me. after a while i built a workshop and large canopy on the corner plot we have. carried on for a few years doing the same. Got on with folk great and spoke to all neighbours fine.

Then i started to stop as it was getting to much and had no time for me. Then i stopped doing cars for folk etc.

Well just months after it all went wrong. I still did mates cars now and then and my own still and soon enough i got a letter from the council saying i was running a commercial business from home. I said i wasnt and it took a few more months to prove it in a way of i have a full time job at 12hr days and proof all the cars i was doing was my own. Mates cars were few and far between but i had a lot of cars lol.

I found it was some old git a few houses up the Cul De Sac who had nothing better to do. and i worked on his sons car lol. And i later found it was him that complained to the council i built a Con`y which cost me £350 in fees. my mistake there but i still got to keep it.

I now just dont like folk ha ha

Best complaint I ever got was the now ex-partner of a neighbour - complained I was making too much noise and his kids were trying to get to sleep as it was night . . .

It was dark, I'll give him that, but it was nearly 5pm in the middle of winter . . .

Built my garage just under the max limits under permitted development - and as I have a lot of land around the house, I still have a lot of potential

My immediate neighbour has good hobbies too - keeping sheep, chickens etc - so every so often, orphans come home to be hand reared - can be quite noisy. Similar for the border collies puppies currently growing up there and demand my attention by loud shouting whenever I appear

You see, this is where it all goes wrong for me.

Someone is working in his garage and gets complained about: "he is working from home, he can't do that he needs a) planning permission or b) change of use or c) anything else you can think of", gets persecuted and a million questions.

Someone is on flexi time/hours/contract as a NHS appointments co-ordinator (as an example) and today he/she is "working from home".

Now, can someone explain to me why one is perfectly acceptable and one is not?

(For clarity: the person working in his garage makes widgets at work but he has his own three phase widget machine at home in his garage so decides to "work from home" for his employer. His employer deals with any and all trade waste. Thought I would get that in first along with anything else, such as Insurance. Would your employer be liable if you accidentally stabbed yourself with their staple gun at your house when working from home and other absurdities).

Or runs an ebay shop from home.
Or runs an Amazon shopfront from home.
Or does all of the above and more.

I've got a big garage which could be considered a commercial workshop (it isnt), Built with planning permission which I work in when I please, far enough from neighbours boundary. I don't make a noise at all hours of the night or cause annoyance, unless Ken Bruce's pop master counts? I'm not disturbing anyone and get no hassle.

realy u had an am cb with a 100 watt burner on it or 200 on sideband like i did and wiped a full street of tellies out

Never had any problems here as the station was "clean" even running 100W, at my last house I did set off one of the neighbours house alarm when I used the 20m band

are but rules have changed and some rightly so

shame they dont change the council planning rules to make it much easier to understand and to follow would stop alot of messing around and expensive solicitors fees

only person getting rich in any event to do with boundary walls and boundary issues is the solicitor and you a load of stress even if you didnt start it in the first place

as goes for nise pay special attention

Never had any problems here as the station was "clean" even running 100W, at my last house I did set off one of the neighbours house alarm when I used the 20m band

We had a guy move close to the lifeboat station and set up a rig that completely wiped out vhf channel 0 for us. That was a major problem
