Morning all,
I've lurked here for a while, picking up lots of valuable info.
I've recently got a cheap ebay plasma cutter - it's a Plasmargon cut50 with pilot arc. Arrived without a user manual, and the seller wasn't very helpful, so I have used this forum as a user manual.
Out of the box, plugged in to a 13A socket, plugged in the air and started playing.
2mm sheet at 20A and 30psi - wow - I can write my name!
8mm plate at 40A and 40psi - hmm, won't cut. Lots of sparks, but won't penetrate. Tried all combinations of amps and psi, but still won't cut. This is a bugger, because that's what I need to do.
Read most of this forum. Put a 32A plug on, and plugged into the welder socket. Wow - what a difference! However, still not a clean, complete cut.
Then I realised that the earth clamp was lying on the bench....
Connected the earth clamp to the work, and, oh boy, it's like a hot knife through butter!
So, my learning from this:
1. Read up on setup and techniques here
2. Make sure that you have enough power available
3. Earth directly on the work
Thanks to all the posters (too numerous to mention) who have helped and guided me this far.
First job - make a towbar mount to go on a old Kubota lawnmower to turn it into a tractor.
