Those ROPS seats look interesting for an enterprising chap [with room, so that's me out] to use. Shouldn't take much to weld up individual subframes and flog them as "Genuine armed forces" gamers' chairs.

I've bought from them before and you do have to be careful as sometimes by the time you paid all the fees things can get out of hand. It's unusual that those Daf trucks have no other fees. Just seeing Wendal's make me want to go and do my HGV just so I can get one.

I cant help feeling this sort of thing should be put into storage all over the country at chosen sites, To be used by whatever service needs it, in times of severe weather, floods that sort of thing.
Its been payed for we have it so why not put it to good use.
Sames as all the big old pumps and generators that are disposed off, all this kit could be put into use occasionally.

Oh no not me, my mate is doing the build. He's built a very nice VW camper but he's retiring and going to use this to travel about in until they find somewhere to settle. He'll get the panels made and then glue them together on the truck and go from there.

There already is, there’s hunderds of vehicles of MOD storage, my BIL was REME, part of his job was checking water, oil, battery in warehouses racks 4 high of SIII landrovers. There really is no sense in what they do, he’d rechassis a LR fit for scrap, the next day be told to scrap a prefectly good one. Barmy army.

Who is going to be responsible for maintenance?

You'll need someone to blame when the big pump is pulled out of storage after 5 years and it's seized solid, or the back end of a truck falls off where it's rusted through...

No chance of that, I work with an ex-REME mechanic and they service all the vehicles in storage every 6 months even if they haven't been used!

There was a story going round years ago that someone's job on permanent nights was just going around kicking over & starting the stored dispatch riders bikes. I never found out if it was true or not.

I get the impression that "just out of army stores" could mean a shell with no engine, transmission, etc.etc. (well, not necessarily, but you get the idea)

Obviously it would be foolish to buy without viewing, but plenty of people do buy vehicles without viewing on ebay.


The chances of me buying one are slim, but more because of the above, than for any other reason - i have been thinking hard about swapping the 101 forward control for something more sensible.... : )

You wont want mine - im going to do a first class rear conversion on it before it goes, and then it will be crazy money.

I saw a GS in germany for about 3.5k buy it now a couple of weeks back. Seemed like a total bargain compared to what they sell for here.
