I desperately want a Cummins powered truck cab 101. Was supposed to be getting one but seller went cold on me , hence the 110
Has anyone here purchased anything from Witham before?
I get the impression that "just out of army stores" could mean a shell with no engine, transmission, etc.etc. (well, not necessarily, but you get the idea)
Obviously it would be foolish to buy without viewing, but plenty of people do buy vehicles without viewing on ebay.
The chances of me buying one are slim, but more because of the above, than for any other reason - i have been thinking hard about swapping the 101 forward control for something more sensible.... : )
Dont know what its like now, I visited a place just outside Girvan to look at some SCUD missile tractor units [just after iraqi war] while there, some older wagons arrived, a job lot bought unseen they were full of kit, bikes, boxes of gear, you name it, guy said they had the check it all before we could look round them as they regularly found live ammo rolling
]I could be very tempted by a 101it’s what I wanted instead of my 110

Over half the Pinzgauer fleet 4x4/6×6 are due to be released from service in the next 2-3years. I'd love one as they are the evolutionary progress from the 101 and having driven one lots in Afghanistan, they are phenomenal off road!
Still lots of ex MOD stuff lying in the yard there. I pass it whilst driving the trains to Girvan and Stranraer. Lots of it though is being reclaimed by nature sadly.
. The plastic was still on the seat. Amazing dash, reminded me of a Volvo dump truck.
We did a lot of work with the UK company that bought the production rights for Pinzgauers over here in Fareham. Had to help them get through the weld tests after they started loosing crews to IEDs in Afghan etc. The armoured Vee shaped belly plate they fitted to them to pass the explosion tests was exceeding the axle weights as it was failing on the weld when they tried it with thinner armour. We got them onto EWM machines with force-arc and they were able to reduce the thickness and still pass the acid test so everyone was happy.
Lovely bits of kit, and they were so well made but VT bought the company and dismantled it. The joke was on them though as they had to honour the government parts/spares contract so they had to continue producing spare doors, chassis etc for years even though they never made another vehicle.

Met a retired couple touring Scotland in one last yr. Towing a propdriven trailer. Said they were lucky to get 8mpg![]()
Bit better than a 101 then :-)

That was with the trailer free wheeling. sure he said with the trailer driven it was around 3mpg.
You can’t beat turning petrol into noise![]()
The guy I work with drove Jackals on his 2 tours of the province.

Mine does about 22ish. On my homebrew fuel @ approx £1.20 per gallon.
I'd get 14 in my 4.6 with a boxer manifold and autoboxis that on homemade petrol? my V8 would scrape 21 in a 90 when it was in van trim and driven carefully ( with a well set up Holley ) but stick a trailer on the hook and you could see the gauge move as you pressed the pedal.
I've got one of the international engines 2.8 tgvs in it. To me, v8s sound like shoveling pound coins down a drain... ; )
I think it did less than 10mpg on petrol, at £6 per gallon, or something.
