They're both exactly the same setting, same was, volts, *amperage*. Only difference being the step and pause motion on the left hand weld, which I've come to majorly dislike.

*amperage is in stars because when you whip back and forth/step and pause you're changing the arc length and stick out, which will affect the actual amperage however this machine senses the arc length and maintains it constantly

I like the left hand one best. If they are as you say put down with the same machine settings then you have simply traveled faster on the left. the right one looks nice too but you've gone slower by the look of it.
Assuming pen and fusion are the same from having the same settings then the heat input in the left is lower from going faster. This would be a sounder weld IMO.

It doesn't look whipped to me. I think it looks a nice run Brad. They both do TBH.

Hi rich. The weld in the right was put im with speedpuls xt run straight, left hand weld I stepped and paused still in speedpulse.
They would both pass any test I would say. I think I could have moved faster on the right, the weld is too large/too much reinforcement for the plate thickness which if I remember correctly was 6mm. I'm gonna have a good play with the machine tomorrow as I've got some small jobs for it.

Ha. Shows how much s##te I talk then. As I genuinely think the run on the left looks nicer and neither look whipped or paused to me they just look like you've used 2 different travel rates.
I hate this mig Malarki that is my excuse lol.

Me too I must say I haven't done much Mig for 6 months now and I go to the machine and I don't have a clue what voltage/amps I even need for what I'm doing. Synergic to the rescue!

There are times when I quite enjoy comfortably holding my own as well, I think that accounted for the pigeon **** welds

some of these comments hahaa. decent welds to the lad who wernt takin the ****. my photos are old. MIG is so easy now. i prefer the pausing technique just enjoy welding like that a bit more. can weld normal fat slugs aswell but it bores me a bit. want to learn MMA and go all the way to 6g on MMA/TIG and flux. thats the dream

It's the proper way to do it maffy if your welding in the flat position.
We shouldn't compromise weld quality just because it's a more exciting way of welding.

so heres one of mine, scrap piece to get set up ready to weld a gate hinge on.no idea now what settings used but it was brother in laws lincoln 185 and .8 with argoshield light.

It's all just a bit of banter, fat slugs are not the way. You want to be aiming for a neat, flat weld profile with no cold rolling or excess spatter. I am not going to go over old ground as to why weaving, whipping or generally wandering about is not the best idea as this has been covered many times in the past. Keep practicing fella, you'll get there in the endo. We do a lot of welder testing and we get more failures on MAG fillet welds in the PB position and its mainly due to people weaving/whipping as can be seen in the macro section. Keep it simple with stringer beads
