Evaporust - first time user / review

How will you compare the metal test pieces; do you have access to a lab grade balance to weight them? I've seen reports where the tests have involved weighing every hour, with a linear rate initially when the main loss is the rust but when the rust is gone, the rate levels off.

I have ultra-precise scales, and more than one copy. But I have enough vision to see the effect and stop.

And what fluid do you have in the ultrasonic (And why in the ultrasonic anyway) p?

The whole horseshoe, judging by the first outcrop of pure iron, is quite modern, made of modern steel, but it will be seen later what kind of metal was used. The fragments are highly corroded and thin. I believe they are covered not only with rust but also with calcium deposits. So I added citric acid. Ultrasound bath both heats and mechanically affects. I will not clean these items with my hands. I want to collect a lot of old horseshoes and make a gate out of them.

So, the whole horseshoe was almost cleaned, the metal is strong, modern cast steel, such as open-hearth, was used. The fragments of horseshoes, judging by the condition, most likely consist almost entirely of iron oxide, with a thin core of metal. Let them lie further in the liquid. Let's see.

I think it cleaned up well. With such a preparation of the metal, after painting, it will not rot.

Joepro (or anyone who knows) will Evaporust remove plating from metal, for example I have some door strikers that are possibly zinc plated and they have a few specs of rust starting and wondered if Evaporust could be used to remove the rust but leave the plating? As I know the acidic rust removers seem to remove plating in my experience.

I don't think anyone knows what's in Evaporust; the Safety Data Sheet is not informative. I think you'll have to do your own tests on a small area.

When you talk about acids, their reactivity covers quite a spectrum, so there's vinegar and citric at one end and hydrochloric far out at the other.
I think that if you put your door strikers in citric solution, and reactions would be quite slow, giving you chance to assess what's going on and stopping it if you don't like what you see before real harm is done.

Has anyone tried Rust-E? Seems to be a Brit version of Evaporust, but about a fiver cheaper per 5L. Anyone know where Evaporust can be had for less than £36 per 5L pse?

I don't think anyone knows what's in Evaporust; the Safety Data Sheet is not informative. ....

Lots of discsussion in the comments about what might or might not be the sercret sauce in Evaporust.

To my jaundiced eye the simple citric acid was perfectly acceptable cheap option.
