A really cheap nasty collet bought for a few quid will happily achieve the same runout and repeatability as a super precision European made 3-jaw chuck worth thousands, and be faster to use.Cool, not something I've used before, I don't think these are quality collets, but interesting to try.
It’s a hundred year old machine running in plain bushings, insufficiently precise is as good as it gets. But that’s ok for me.Cheap and nasty is never good.
No real point in obtaining high precision if the machine is insufficiently precise.
Commercial production uses high precision collets in high precision chucks in high precision machines, where high quality tooling lasts many times longer than the cheap and nasty end of the market.
I got mine from eBay for a few quid the set. They’re best described as “ got what I paid for”. It’ll do me for this clattery old machineA really cheap nasty collet bought for a few quid will happily achieve the same runout and repeatability as a super precision European made 3-jaw chuck worth thousands, and be faster to use.
I think you can get half-micron runout ER collets for about £25 if you really need that kind of accuracy... They offer great bang for your buck.
