remember if you undo the top filter you will need to bleed the diesel to the injectors to restart it ,maybe a fuel primer(a lever)to help....any pics of the whole tractor?

There's fingerprints in it, so its some sort of epoxy repair compound.

Ref. it jumping out of gear, try to get it sorted before attempting any hills, the brakes aren't that brilliant, if it pops out on a decent it mainly results in the washing machine being needed when back home
