Don't go anywhere near an engine with grit! especially a diesel. What you want is a small parts cleaner or a bucket and stiff brush. Don't waste money on Jizer or Gunk use neat diesel then hose it off with water. Diesel leaves a thin film of oil so wont rust.
This is a really lovely bit of kit, like no modern diesel you will ever see. The engine is not a true Perkins, but result of a tie up between Ford and Perkins, forerunner of the P3. First truck I drove was a Fordson 4D that had a similar engine but 4 cylinder, air governed as well.
