The engine part ID game

Whats the green round thing to the right of the engine compartment.

Gert crack in the block. Sounds a common fault on these tractors, rather not just bung it up with chewing gum

Its a 1958 Fordson Dexta Neil, seems simple enough, once i know what everything is Looking forward to getting to work on the tractor.

Fordson Dexta eh! i had to look that up

had to tell from that angle, but looks to me like the oil filter.

looks like a 5/8" bolt in the bottom to drain the oil out of it before removal to save a mess.

what the hell did you buy that for

you can actually see it better in the top picture, and it does infact look like the oil filter.

Might be an idea to find someone who has basic understanding of diesel engines to help with this, as jobs like timing the pump are not for beginners? Also worth remembering that corrosion is big problem on these engines, and as they have wet liners this often results in water getting into the engine oil.

Thanks fellas, yes, it starts and runs ok. The diaphragm on the doo daa is worn making the engine speed fluctuate when it idles. The gear selector is worn meaning it jumps out of gear, but other than that pretty sound.

Restoration project

there are quite a lot of people that restore tractors and they should be quite easy due to them being built from heavy steel just mud guards to rot and thing like that

Undo them and see whats inside, upper one is fuel, theres a line from it to the pump, come on Paul
Lower is oil.

Whats the plan with the block, get it stitched?
