I am doing an inlet manifold gasket on a Cologne that is in the most disgusting state I have ever seen. I really don't think it has ever had an oil change judging by the crud that is in there. The photo is of the gasket as found, with piles of it just sitting there.
Symptoms were that I had an air leak still, after the carburettor work so it had to come out. The bolt holes were also full of yuck and so wouldn't bottom and that is why the "new" gasket fitted previously wasn't being compressed.
My question is what degreaser to use. I have cleaned it up fairly well with contaminated petrol but would like a water based solution like Screwfix Heavy duty degreaser which has been excellent. Sadly it seems to be unavailable for some reason, so need an alternative. Various options on Amazon but not until at least Friday for delivery. My preference is something I can get off the shelf, my local factor only has aerosols which are not much good to me.
