Emails from BT ?

I got the same message from BT but only on the 1st page of my BT access point after log on, so I know my request was genuine as I was already within a secure area.

I use a gmail address as a "throwaway" account.

+1 for gmail. Gmail also supports "sub-addressing" (discussed here) so that you can use "+extensions" on your email address, creating throwaway addresses for different sites that can easily be blocked if they start spamming you.
If you're a fan of desktop email, using Outlook Express, Outlook or Windows Mail (or their equivalents on Mac/Linux) then you can still connect to a gmail account using these tools. Same thing for your phone email client.

I use Gmail for throw away accounts and can second this, it also has less spam coming through in my opinion.

Yah that second one smells fishy. Shutting account in seven days because it's not secure? WTF? Shut it down IMMEDIATELY if it's not secure lol.

I've had problems with Hotmail in that notifications from forums don't get through, so I use BT for those. Will be a pain if I change ISP though.

The thing that put me off ISP supplied mailboxes was when I used AOL and switched to freeserve - oh look, email gone...

I always wonder why more people don't realise that and have their own domain. For a fiver a year or less, it has to be great value.

That's interesting.

I was also with AOL and after an argument with about a million of their tech people re my speed and my refusal to pay extra £'s to upgrade and 'perhaps' get the speed I was initially promised, I told them to go away and went with Sky, my mate said they will stop you using their e mail service.

That was at least 5 years ago, probably more and nothing has changed and I still have it, apart from the usual annoying spam now and again it seems to work ok and had no hacks as far as I am aware.

The only thing that's stopping me using it big time is the fact I keep thinking they will suddenly delete me and I will lose everything.
