Pretty disgusting after only one day.
It all wire brushed off very easily.
I'll get it set up again tomorrow to do the big bits with some proper soda crystals.
Pretty happy with it so far.
I've not decided yet whether to paint it or just coat in beeswax or linseed oil. I'll see how well the main body cleans up i think and then decide.
I've modified the anodes so they hang on the side so it's easier to remove and clean them. I've also soldered on some better clips.
I got some soda crystals and I've got the main body in at the moment.
It was pulling 7.5 amps so i watered down the solution and got it down to 5.5 is this still too high? The sides of the vice are quite close to the anodes.
I set the current to circa 2A, I use a current limiting psu but if I was using variable voltage I'd mess with the electrolyte solution and PD to achieve that current.
I limit the open circuit volts to about 12v to avoid sparks when connecting and tickles when messing with wet hands
Thanks. A bit different to mine but same principle. I had it set up correctly i just needed to put a little more tension on the spring.
Finally got the last bit cleaned up.
All cleaned up with a wire wheel and brush then heated to about 80c and rubbed with beeswax, it soaked up a whole 30g bar. It smells lovely, better then the washing powder lol.
All finished and back together.
