electric jigsaw??

my son is wanting a jigsaw for XMAS.
theres that many from cheap to ridiculously price.
I dont want to buy him a cheap sh*te'
I've got a matec drill & grinder very good and robust.
they took some work load and still going strong but makita no longer sell them
but I found this on flea bay ..has anyone used these,are they any good??

Hi, personally I just buy Japanese now.....although have a Festool jigsaw for special jobs......
£100 or there abouts is a reasonable price for a good machine.......
buy cheap, buy twice !!!!!!!!!

I think they (red version) are the diy brand of Makita, don’t know if that makes them good or bad as Makita are a decent make in general.

I’ve got a Bosch cordless version and it’s superb, does your lad have batteries and charger from a particular make? I don’t think I’d go back to corded now. Bare unit was about £100 notes so not cheap but well worth the premium imo.

For diy range tools at the cheaper end erbauer are ok, I’ve got a belt sander from them and it’s been great.

Yeah I’m not sure if the red branded Makita stuff is the same but they did used to make Site branded gear - you don’t seem to get that any more so I don’t know if they just rebranded it as Makita?

I bought a Metabo one recently on the basis of their grinders that I have being good quality and I’d recommend it. It’s a Steb140 I think.

I was really just using the term DIY to mean cheaper, which if you read past Makita's marketing guff is what they are saying too....

I don't think you can go wrong with Aldis or Lidl jigsaws with three year guarantee you could probably buy three or four at Makita prices.

Yeah that's my understanding - also Black and Decker/Dewalt, as I think they are the same parent company?

It gets confusing because there are even differences within the same range - I've got some Bosch Pro (Blue) gear, but for things like drills especially they seem to make different grades (All Bosch pro) aimed at light users up to "proper" heavy duty models, even before you look at their "Green" range!!

I have an Evolution Rage 7 jigsaw which I've used to cut lots of stainless sheet with Bosch blades. It's variable speed. Prices vary a lot but you can usually find them for £60 or less.

Go on, get him a Makita and the mrs a smaller present! I have a DeWalt 240v that sits in it's box on the shelf as most times I can always find another way of cutting just about anything rather than having to unpack and repack it for a small job! I should sell it and buy a cordless really but I know when we move house I'll need it.

No help to the OP but I bought a Black and Decker model DN39 pendulum Jigsaw made in west Germany variable speed from 500 to 3000 strokes per minute and it is a brilliant tool, solid and controllable. I've had it years and I don't think they make anything like it now.
