just wired a couple of chargers up for teslas a few month ago at a b and b .will ask the guy how many times it been used as theres only another 2 within 40 miles ish
It’s getting a bit busy in Sheffield now with people racing to get the charge points in car parks.
3 years ago I had both free chargers to myself almost guaranteed.
I park up at 5am to get to the gym by the time I get back there will be 3 or more EVs next to me that have left their cables left over the charge point for me to plug in as I leave. BEVs get priority over phev is the unwritten rule.

I mean, if only there was a simpler system that takes a few minutes, then you could say "fill" your vehicle, pay and drive off......
yep if they needed filling up.. fact is at these stations i'd say 80% of us don't actually need to be charged we just do it anyway whilst we park up. I'm at 90% when i get there i just plug it in because i can

We have that at work - they let us charge for free and for some people it is a challenge to run down the battery before they get to park, one person even said he did not take his kids out over the weekend as the car was not charged! Strange how some people get.
Then there were complaints from those without an EV about how they would start using 'free electricity' such as charging their mobiles at work (which they all did anyway) and one person was going to bring in a hair dryer to use some electricity
Israel has a system like that for electric cars, they swap out the complete battery pack, you drive in over a pit and the old pack is removed and a freshly charged one installed, I was quite surprised by how easy / quick it was (all automated)
I would image the results are similar to trying to escape from an impending wildfire with an empty fuel tank?

They had - but it is gone, the company "Better Place" went best. Huge amount of money in setting it all up and went to the wall after a few years...
I'll be driving 100 miles in a BMW i3 tomorrow, I will drive past more chargers than petrol stations and the chargers are open all hours. In the summer with more frequent ferries I will do 200 miles with the same car in a day, a decent fast charger gets 80% charge very quickly. EVs are here to stay, but battery swapping is a bit of a dead tech, fast charging is the way to go.

Standardised battery packs are the way forward. An automated station, could probably change over batteries quicker than you can order a mokachocwatybotty

What happens when the number of EVs on the ferry increases and they're all going for the same chargers along the same road? As an aside, do you know of any plans for CalMac to have charging points on their ferries?

Then you see solar panels everywhere in the UK because of subsidies. Go to Spain and Portugal hardly any. The World is bonkers
Then we have jungles being destroyed for bio fuels and Germany ditching nuclear power in favour of opencast lignite.
And they wonder why CO2 emissions are rising so much.

I was watching a program about coal in Australia, they mine more in a day than total British coal production in a yr
that was in 2016 and were expecting that to increase

I have just done a 3 day course on ev / hybrid vehicles
Hybrid is the way things will be going, the so called self charging electric car
We were working on the DC battery packs 600 volt a real killer
That is put through a inverter to give 380 ish 3 phase
I have driven a few of them now the performance is amazing

Australian fella stated in the article "... stresses that the point is not to offer a diesel-powered EV charger as the final solution, but as a reliable stop gap until installation of batteries and renewable-powered EV chargers become financially viable." Some interesting bean counting at the end.
This, a little closer to home, Cenex LCV at Millbrook and there were more at the other car parks.
Some ballpark numbers for fun.
1000+ litre on board diesel tanks wont quite last 24 hours
200kW consuming 45L/H or 4.44kW per Litre per hour
Now, Red is cheaper and I'm not sure if you can claim the VAT back these days if you use it for generating.
Diesel retail pump price of £1.33/L, 'cause its a nice number that works well.
Then 1kWH=30p and that's JUST the fuel cost.

But how do they expect local power networks to be able to suddenly cope with a few hundred extra kw?
Remember 10 normal cars could take in 1 megawatt per hour charging!
