I made this tool box circa 1983 as an apprentice. Once filled with various tools I also made its had a bloody hard, neglected life.
Tbh I never really used it as a working toolbox per se. Always felt it too short. One lad back then cocked up cutting the sheet to make his and it ended up being 1.5x as long. I remember bring dead jealous ad he could nos fit a hacksaw in his.
Why now, why not just bin it, well it's not why were here is it! Guess I'm older and more nostalgic too.
I did in fact find it again a year or so ago (pre Covid), all rusty in my damp old stable where it had sat since a house move in 1999. At that time I chucked in a 180L of citric along with a Focus cross member. Covid came along and me being me promptly forgot about it and moved onto something else.
Struggling to keep busy here and self isolating with Covid I decided to tidy up and empty the citric bath.
After a jet wash its come up amazingly solid. The patina is really something. I reckon if I took it down the tip Sarah would have it off me quicker than a chav with a winning scratch card.
All handmade hinges, handles and catches back then:
The tray I think I must have gas welded at the corners:
From memory one lid leaf never did close properly.
Next step into a warm bucket of fresh citric.
