I also know fleabay killed auto jumbles. Yes there are still jumbles, but most stuff is sold online i reckon.

local council killed off jumbles car boots in our area and then tried to open a small one up out of the city that failed

huddersfield has the right idea

leeds is same all new crap no proper market anymore

leeds council gives one year grace with council tax or a massive reduced amount second year at reduced rate

bradford its full rate no chance to get started a bit like most places

leeds thrives other places kill its businesses

Road bike parts is a good example - go to local bike shop, as you 'should', can chat about what you need, look at whats on offer and pay, say £100 for it...when it comes into stock because, perhaps understandably, he doesn't want to keep £1,000's of gear in stock just in case it sells so buys in what you want.

Or....Go online on Wiggle, always in stock, pay £79.99, order before 10pm and you get it next day. Get it delivered to work so I'm not going to miss the delivery.

No brainer really.

After the last 3 attempts at buying various items from them, never again.

Items shown on the website as being in stock (I even filtered my search to specify this) miraculously developing a 3 - 4 week back order period after payment. Order cancelled by me after much argument.
An order which seemingly disappearing into the ether for 2 weeks despite numerous ignored enquiries as to what was happening before being randomly cancelled and refunded (wouldn't have minded but they were parts I needed).
Final straw being they sent me a jacket which was obviously a returned item (it wasn't even clean!) and led me a right dance to get it returned and refunded.
It's not been so much a buying experience as loaning them money under false pretences!
In each case I've ended up getting sorted by the local bike shops at no greater cost...

When I finally retired I looked into getting a Subway...its very close to my house and it was up for sale.....they wanted £70000 for the franchise, £2000 a month rent and £8000 a year Rates.........thats a lot of sandwiches........I decided to build a shed

u might regret it just think you wouldn't be paying any tax on it they would feel sorry for u and give u a rebate

I could name (but I won't for legal reasons) the name of an Irish company that supplies welding products that buys the big sets of plasma consumables off that riverweld place, rebags them into bags of 5 and makes about 2000% mark up on them. They're a dealer for a brand of plasma cutter and even though they don't actually say they're genuine consumables, the average person would be given the impression from the way the display them that what they're buying is a genuine part.

Yes a village near us has a community shop, another a community pub. I endeavour to use my local at ecery opportunity to make sure it stays open!

We had everything around us. I used the butchers, the greengrocers, the bakery, the DIY shop (which is cheaper than Wickes antway) but most of them closed. We now have subway, pizza hut, costa, kfc, greggs and they all seem to be making a living. The Butchers actually re-opened and sells top end stuff. He is doing that well that he got the shop next door and made it into a deli....shows that there is a market there....hes doing that well that he paid £450,000 for my sister in laws place round the corner from me.
