Ebay - request to cancel transaction

Was two different transactions within their protection, which is worth zero. They had all the fraud info, police report everything they asked for was given. They decided to keep the money rather than be good with their promise. So yes I agree do what you can to prevent ebay from getting money. When they do nothing but allow people to get ripped off and deny refunding if they feel like it.

the thing is with cash on collection you have to make sure the item is as stated and in good order just as you would with classified adds

I agree, it's where people fall down, they forget all the rules of buying for cash... thinking they have some sort of protection, it should be treated the same as buying from the local paper...go and look, give it a test, test it again and only if 100% happy hand over the dosh... because that's the end of it.

Putting the rights and wrongs of ebay fees aside, if the seller had been upfront about it I would most likely have agreed depending on the final price I suppose. The fact that he's just trying his luck after the event I would probably decline, just basic manners really!

Of course it's against ebay rules and both of you could lose your accounts if found out, an unlikely event unless the seller is doing this trick on every sale and has a load of cancellations on his account, it would probably still be only him that got suspended though

Its a standard practice for high volume sellers who shill bid on their accounts. Ebay (despite what they say) assist this by automatically opening and closing unpaid item cases. I know a company who does this on 20 or 30 items per day and ebay JUST DONT CARE.

Strange thing is if your account falls below standard you get your selling account closed but they leave your account open to buy from. They WILL NOT reopen it! Anything you can screw ebay for do it......but if it was me I would leave the guy my phone number so nothing is sent via ebay...ask him for half of the fees to be sent to you via paypal gift. (assuming he contacts you)

If you try to pass phone numbers or email addresses through Ebay's contact system they'll either be removed or the mail won't send until you remove it - it's quite remarkable how it can pick them out no matter how you try to disguise them (although I haven't yet tried 0putting 7the 7number 3into 0the 4text 0like 2this...)
However... if you've opted to 'Contact Seller', there's a further option to attach photos and if the photo happens to contain your email address or phone number it appears to slip through

Yep have done that, just saved it in paint as a jpeg and sent it over

I just selected as payment sent, but hasn't affected the request.

After reading all the posts, I seem to have taken on this stance. Its a little bit cheeky to spring this on me without discussing or offering a cut--Especially when he broke an adjusting knob when loading it into the car without offering any compensation. A simple glue job, but not the point. I think I will decline, simply through his lack of manners.

Funny enough I've just had something similar, at the beginning of Sep I bid on and won a Yardmaster single metal garage, collected 4 days later and paid cash. It now sits at home waiting to be built.

Yesterday I get 2 emails (only 2 minutes apart) from Ebay:
11:49 Advising that the seller has opened a cancellation request based on being 'Unable to Agree Terms'
11:51 Advising that I had agreed to to the request and that the transaction was now cancelled.

A bit peeved that A) The seller hadn't bothered to check with me and B) The case had been cancelled without my interaction I found the 'Call Me Back' button:

• First call back came within 2 mins - Call centre put me on hold for 10 mins then got cut off.

• Second call back came again quite quickly, explained it all again, I was put back on hold for 10 mins then told it was being escalated and someone would call me back within an hour (which didn't happen).

• In the evening I though I'd give the 'Online Chat' function a go, a half hour dysfunctional chat ended with them basically saying only I could have closed it. FFS!

• Tried the 'Call Me Back' button again today, 1 hour and 40 mins of being put on hold and passed around various departments and still they don't believe I didn't agree to close the case. When I suggested the only reason the seller wanted to cancel was to avoid the fees as I already had the item they just offered to put me back on hold and transfer me to yet another department so that I could 'Report The Seller'!

At this point I just told them I had wasted more than enough of my time and if they couldn't be bothered to act on it then they deserve to lose their fees! Still not bothered!

You should only accept the cancellation request if you haven't paid yet or you've already received your refund from the seller. If you haven't received your refund,
I decline the seller's request to cancel this transaction.

That's what I would have done given the chance, the case was opened and closed before I even saw it!

I recently ordered a part for a tv, received it 2 days later a fault developed I contacted the seller who gave a refund straight away, I then had a message saying the seller wanted to cancel and I had to agree yet I was unable to agree because there was no way of agreeing and it was just automatically cancelled after so many days
