Ebay - request to cancel transaction

Today I bought a second hand bandsaw from an ebay seller. It was listed as an action, with a Buy It Now option. I used the Buy It Now.

Picked it up, paid cash, no problems. This evening, the seller has opened a case with a request to cancel the transaction. I have never experienced this before so am unsure. Is it simply a method to avoid fees. Is there a chance of any comeback to me if I accept. It automatically accepts after 7 days if I do not respond anyway.

What should I do?

contact ebay and tell them you bought it collected it paid cash etc to cover your rear

seller is taking the p-ss by the look of it ran out of stock ???

My Son had a similar purchase, after delivery--the seller asked for it to be cancelled and the item returned, he refused and heard nowt else. At the time we thought maybe he wasnt the owner and it was maybe stolen. never heard another thing.

If hes opened a case E bay will monitor it, dont be frightened to give them a call a find out whats going on, they are a bit customer orientated. You should have had communication direct from E bay if hes opened a case

yes make sure you do contact ebay and state the above, worst case, if for instance it turned out to be stolen then you can show you bought it in good faith

my father had the same with a pressure washer. He had had it a few days and ebay wouldn't let him leave feedback because the transaction had been canceled. He never heard anything from it either

He's done it to get his fees back. If you are happy with the item there is no reason why you can't accept, equally if you decline there's nowt he can do about it

Yep, it's all to save the (not insubstantial) fees. If it's an item that you're happy with and won't be looking for any comeback (e.g a warranty) then it won't be a problem for you to accept, the choice is yours.

Seller should have split the profit (or saving) with you when you picked it up, I bought a Colchester student the other day and the fees were just around £90, the seller gave me £40 back, everyone's a winner except eBay.

Because you paid cash there would be no help at all from ebay or paypal if you have problems later on so you won't lose anything by agreeing, the seller will gain 10% of the sale price because they won't pay commission.

Of course it's against ebay rules and both of you could lose your accounts if found out, an unlikely event unless the seller is doing this trick on every sale and has a load of cancellations on his account, it would probably still be only him that got suspended though

It's a common trick but usually the seller would offer a few quid off the price as a share of their gain.

Personally I would refuse the request, nothing to gain by accepting, if you ignore it without replying it will default to a cancellation ( I think)

Yeah do it. Accept the cancellation, means he will save the fees. There is no comeback whatsoever if you paid cash. Just the slight worry if it is an item that can break down in the future. Why let Ebay make stupid amounts of money? I have done this before, split the saving with the buyer. Sod ebay especially the charges they make for doing nowt.

As a seller I have made a lot of money getting rid of stuff I don't want.
As a previous business seller I made a lot of money over 3 years trading
As a buyer I have had some great bargains
and if my item does not arrive or is faulty Ebay will get my money back

So perhaps they actually do 'do something' and I am the first to agree the ebay of today is not as car boot friendly as the ebay of yesterday but it's still a site that I use and enjoy without any problems, albeit my days of selling are just about over, mostly due to postage costs.

Because they have no evidence of payment, it's not really that they allow it, more a case of they can't stop it, they do though insist you can't refuse paypal except for vehicles.

I have known sellers who state 'cash only no paypal' have their listings removed.

It stinks a bit because allowing paypal for a collection item can leave you open to a scam, you have no delivery proof, you could make the buyer sign a receipt, take his photo or whatever you like but... no good at all .

to be honest I would never make a purchase of that size outside of their protection rules, its simply not worth it

the thing is with cash on collection you have to make sure the item is as stated and in good order just as you would with classified adds

Was two different transactions within their protection, which is worth zero. They had all the fraud info, police report everything they asked for was given. They decided to keep the money rather than be good with their promise. So yes I agree do what you can to prevent ebay from getting money. When they do nothing but allow people to get ripped off and deny refunding if they feel like it.
