I have just found out eBay has finally flipped it's lid. It could be the ultimate scammers tool.

Just been charged £475 postage....yes you read it correctly.

How they can have a system that is so open to abuse is beyond me..

Oh and they won't cancel it until the buyer authorised it.......even though I have told the silly mate there will be no money in my funding sources for them to try and claim.

Yes but......I had messaged the seller.


So Me being clever decided to have 1st class. Thinking he might have 1st class correct.
But when I went into pay I tried to select 1st class but it just autopaid without allowing me the option to change or even confirm payment.

Absolutely not... I even told him about the mistake of the decimal point in the wrong place. I left a bid after his reply made it clear it was a mistake and not a scam. I even forgot it was ending.

and yeah, eBay seems to be full of scammers. I bout some men’s sandles, Dunlop. They were way too small despite being marked as the correct size. They wouldn’t refund and were clever with the comms, kept trying to blame me for being disappointed.

no refund or replacement offered despite the wrong size, confirmed by picture comparison with correct sized shoe.

ebay so far have been useless.

Ebay takes a fee on what ever is sold, so it's common practice to have huuuuuge shipping rates, no fee on the shipping
That's not unusual to see.

If the price is too low to be true then it's fishy and not true.

You should be able to cancel the order.

Not any more. Ebay also now charge commission on postage too to stop this loophole.

I bought a radio, clearly and repeatedly listed as 18w. On arrival it was 5w.

Multiple messages and offers of a small refund that I kept refusing.

Got to the stage where I could open a case but instead I left negative feedback. Then came the "please remove feedback" message, I agreed upon receipt of a full refund however once I got it I forgot to change the feedback

I spent the first half of lockdown arguing between Ebay and the seller (a large sporting goods retailer) over a trampoline- essentially only 2 of the 3 boxes delivered. Several hundred quid. First time in 13 or so years I’ve had a real issue with eBay but having now experienced the complexity and slowness of their refunds service I have a personal policy of never buying an expensive item again off there.

It also stops me from beer buying one of the many lathes I keep looking at .... including double boosts on here :-)

eBay charge the final value fee on the item cost PLUS the shipping. Since the listing said £475 it was never going to end well. You should not have a placed the bid or you should have retracted it until the P&P was amended. Can't you cancel and say that you no longer want the item?

This was a genuine mistake BUT I can't work out why eBay allow such stupid postage charges.....I can't imagine he is the only guy to miss the decimal point.

All done. But I had clarification before I bid the postage was £4.75 and 5.75 from the seller.
I only paid as I was going to try choosing 1st class at £5.75 but eBay/PayPal autopaid before I could select the alternative option.

Most of the ebay admin is automated and sifted through by non humans..............its the way forward..............apparently
