Dynamo

As the radiator is off for rebuilding I took the opportunity to gain access to the front of the engine. After cleaning it down and removing the fan I tackled the dynamo.

I haven't encountered one with a lubrication fitting for the rear bush.
Should there be some kind of lubricator or just a felt 'reservoir' and plug? The best Google result seems to be an MG specialist Brown and Gammons, but there isn't a useful illustration.

Given that I found the studs for the fan in the cast iron water pump pulley were UNF, the studs for the dynamo bracket to block were BSF and the nuts and set screws for the dynamo tension adjustment were BSW presumably this thread is British Cycle Thread or something equally unlikely. At least I haven't found any OEM Metric yet.

A felt pad soaked in oil and a blanking screw from memory.

Found a lubrication chart. Every 10k miles refill lubricator with HMP grease.

I wonder what this lubricator looks like.

I'll grease liberally on re-assembly. I'll pack the external reservoir and make a reasonably tidy looking wooden plug to keep dirt out.

After 10k miles I'll think about what to do! I may even have found a lubricator at a spares jumble.

On my Morris 8, I have a little flip-top lubrication point for oil (has a similar one on the front bearing too.

Is it a Lucas dynamo ? I only recall a hole in the end, not in the top, and a felt pad which needed oiling every so often.

Some had a take off to run a rev counter, but that doesn't look the same
